Sony Handycam no Sound

I have a Sony handycam, recently new and not used much, maybe 3 tapes through it. I recently tried to play back some footage on the tv and did not get any sound, so thinking it was the cables I unhooked them and tried to turn up the sound on the playback on the camera....it shows the sound all the way up but there is no sound comming out of the camera!!! I tried taking out the battery, exchanging tapes and even pushing the reset button on the camera body inside of the LCD screen. Nothing is working and I need help!

SOURCE: computer mode

hi follow this steps: Make sure that you have installed the USB driver for the handycam. You can download the drivers from this link: Sony Asia Pacific Support Website--Download Page for HC40E USB Driver for Windows. Connect the handycam to the AC adaptor (the same as putting it on charge). Set the handycam to USB stream mode. (Press P-menu, press MENU, Press EDIT/PLAY, Press USB MODE, Press USB Stream.) Set the tape at the point from where you want to start capturing in PC. Connect the handycam and the PC with the USB cable. (USB-Mode appears on the handycam LCD / viewfinder.) Start Windows Movie Maker. Click on the 'Capture..' link to start the wizard. Select the Sony Digital Imaging Device. Click Next. Specify the file name and path for the capture video. Click Next. Select the desired capture format and Click Next. (Leave it to recommended setting if you are not sure.) The dialog box now displays the Start Capture and End Capture buttons on the left and preview window on the right. Play the tape on the handycam. The video from handycam should appear in the preview window of WMM. Click the Start Capture button to start capturing the video. Click End Capture to pause or stop recording. Click the Finish button. The .wmv file will be saved in the path specified in step 7.

SOURCE: black lcd screeen on my sony handycam

first check the iris of the camera if it is opening, you will see this when you look inside the lens of the camera when you turn on and off the switch at camera mode if the iris is opening....if the iris is ok the second problem may occurs of your camera is the ccd image sensor....go to a sony service center for replacing that...i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is the recall product not only on sony but in other brand because the manufacturer of their sensor is only one company....

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

USB streaming does not work for Windows Vista. Use the firewire/ilink connection instead.

New DCR-TRV260 won't play my old tapes

I have the same problem. I just bought a sony handyman and tried to play my old tapes and nothing, not even sound. But I just recorded something using an old tape and it records and I can play that back. I'm thinking maybe over time, somehow all the data on there got erased. Which is really a bummer.

My camera won't play a tape. I get error code C:31:22. Most recent video footage has sound but no picture. Can't get it to play a cleaning tape.

The C31 indicates that a motor is not running/turning. This is not a DIY repair. In many cases, a belt has broken or slipped and needs to be replaced. In others, the motor itself is defective. In either case, the unit needs service including an alignment. Check with Sony for the repair cost. I believe that they have a fixed price for the repair which includes parts and labor.

Having problem with sound playback from TDK Metal 8 tapes

I don't remember where I read it, but somewhere like this site.
Just as you start the play back, give your camera a bump with the heal of your hand. This has worked a couple times, and the issue seems to be with just the metal tapes. My husband was a bit appalled until it worked. It might not solve the issue long term, but I was wanting to recover baby footage so I wanted to just get it done.

If you can capture it on the computer using a capture software, you can then burn the footage onto a dvd burner using a dvd burning software.

Old Sony Handycam Video 8 CCD TR36

Head alignment (re-aligning the tracks) is not something we as owners can undertake - it has to be done professionally.
You can however quite safely clean the heads by using one of the dry cleaning tapes sold for the purpose. I have used an 8mm/Hi-8 cleaning tape made by TDK for a number of years with good results. Remember that if your heads are dirty both recording and playback will be affected and once you have cleaned the heads you need to test the camera by recording new footage and then playing it back to see if matters have improved. Good Luck.
