Cleaning vent Can the vent on top exterior be removed for cleaning? I see screws on top. Maybe it just pops off. It would be nice to just take this off for cleaning. Thank You, Robin

Unplug the microwave first.
Then carefully remove the exterior panel on the right of the unit.
The screw is at the top under the front grille/vent..
Behind this cover near the bottom there should be a ceramic fuse.
Carefully remove it and test it with an ohm meter for continuity.
If there is no continuity replace the fuse.

I understand you are trying to the air vent cover off your Frigidaire microwave, model# PLMV169DC, so you are able to clean the grease from underneath the top cover. Please follow these instructions:

1. Disconnect power to the microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging.
2. Remove the louver mounting screws.
3. Pull the louver away from the unit.
4. Change the charcoal filter.
5. Carefully push the louver back into place and replace the screws removed in step 2.

take the screws out of vent and remove to clean inside the inter vent

You can do this without removing unit from wall. First unplug unit. Next remove the two screws on the top of the unit closest to the front. These screws simply keep the up facing vent in place. Next slide the vent to the left (plastic latches on bottom hold in place) to allow vent to be removed. You should now see a single screw above the control panel. Remove it then open the microwave door. Gently slide the control panel up which will disengage the plastic latches on the panel sides. Suggest if you are going to remove the controller and replace take a picture before removing it so you know exactly how to reconnect all the wires.

Two screws on the top of the grill can be removed, then the grill pulls straight off.

Caution - I broke the tabs on the grill where the screws hold metal tabs - $98 for a new grill!

There are 2 screws on the top of the microwave, remove them, and the cover almost falls off for easy cleaning.

I just fixed mine. Same problem.

1. remove the top vent (like replacing filter) w/ 2 or 3 screws on the top of the unit
2. Remove the one screw on the top of the clock/control unit.
3. Remove the clock/control panel by sliding up then out
4. See circuit board at the bottom for the 3 switches. Hopefully it just popped out of place.
5. pop it back into place and re-assemble
6. if it's broken, you'll have to find the replacement part here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/
7. If the actual buttons (black plastic) are broken, you have to replace the whole plastic housing for the electronics. Probably a big project and/or you'd replace the whole bit for hundreds of dollars, but even still, it's a pop-out, pop-in.

The vent (also known as grill assembly in GE literature) comes off after removing the two screws at the top of the unit and gently sliding the entire assembly to the left about an inch. This will allow the vent to be cleaned of grease, hair, etc., as well as giving some access to the areas behind the vent.

pop the plastic off inside door you will see 2 screws that hold handle on or if your trying to get the door hinges off unscrew bottom panel to access bottom hinge screw and vent at top to access screws for top hinge
