Ipod won't sync to Itunes

Hello, I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable. Someone on the Apple site suggested (to someone else with a simular issue) that this could be caused by locked files in the directory. I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked. Any ideas? Thanks!! I have an ipod nano. I have been having the same problems as what seems to be thousands of other people with every different kind of ipod. I plug my ipod or my g/f's ipod into our computer and it doesn't show up in my computer or itunes. itunes also freezes until a message pops up either saying connection timed out or it cannont find the oppriate folder and cannot sync. I have been searching the internet for a solution and have tried restarting the comp, reinstalling itunes, i have done the ipod services steps through properties of my comp, I have always tried the unchecking of read only files in your itunes music folder. None of this stuff has worked for me. My ipod plays music just fine on its own, i just can' connect and add anything new anymore. We did recently switch to a new computer so maybe this is the problem and if it is and there is an easy fix please let me know, i could care less if i sound like an idiot at this point. please help...thanks

I appreciate the attempt to help but the "ipod thing" doesn't show up in my computer, itunes or anywhere else. I have only got it to appear a few times, and i have tried that solution already when i got it to appear once, no luck.

Yes, I have had this problem. First, I would disable the automatic sync with the iPod and ITunes. You can do this by going into preferences in iTunes. Download the latest version of iTunes by checking for an update. Then click on your iPod in iTunes and restore the iPod to its original setting. This will erase the whole iPod. Then you can sync it with iTunes again. That should fix the problem.

Does your ipod actually work or no?
if it works put it in disk mode by pressing the menu and center buttons and holding until the apple appears and switching to the center and play buttons and holding until the check mark appears.

then plug it in the the usb and see what happens.
if it mounts to itunes try and restore. if not go to my computer and see if it is there. if so right click on the drive and format...not quick format use full format.
then repeat the steps before until you get it mounted.
more than likely you have a virus and the virus is not letting the restore program delete it.

JUST SHUT IT OFF AND THEN CONNECT YOUR USB CABLE TO YOUR PC AND IPOD, THEN HOLD THE HOME AND POWER BUTTON UNTIL YOUR SEE I TUNES ICON WITH THE USB CONNECTOR RIGHT UNDER IT, WHEN YOU SEE IT LET GO THEN IT'LL SYNC INTO ITUNES AND JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Because you have all your music already backed up onto your pc you can safely erase your ipod. Have you already tried to do a restore on it yet. To do this connect the ipod to the pc and in itunes on the ipods main screen click the Restore button, then choose the bottom most option if it gives you any. If it says to erase the device anywhere, all the better, select that one.

If that doesn't work, assuming you're on a pc and not a mac, open 'My Computer', right click the ipod, select 'Properties' then erase it as you would any harddrive. Once you have done either of these you can resync it in itunes.

All the best

When you wiped the old computer and then reconnected to the new computer, it reformatted the player, causing data corruption. I would try all five of these suggestions, but first try uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple/iTunes software: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems. â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below. â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes. â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed. â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web. â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 50.

Ipod won't sync to Itunes

maybe - just maybe - if you plug it into your computer and then, if a mac, do the 'get info' bit and look for the info regarding if a file or device is locked.
