Overheating on lower left corner of my HP Pavilion computer (dv6775us). I have removed the battery (to see if it was part of HP's Battery Replacement Program -- it wasn't). So, might this be a problem in the computer's fan/cooling system? Please advise. Many thanks.

First of all where is this laptop used? On a hard surface or on your lap? I would invest in a notebook cooler you can get a decent one for about 20-30$. Secondly you may want to get some computer air and blow it into the vents on the laptop. Your last option would be to take it apart and clean out any dust thoroughly although this option is difficult and should only be done by a computer tech.
thank you,
Lee

Testimonial: "Very helpful suggestions. A notebook cooler and computer air (whatever that may be) sound promising. (The computer is located atop a table.) Thanks!"

My hp dv9000 cant update or correct time and date

If the laptop doesn't keep the correct time, and date, it's because the CMOS Battery is shot.

In the HP Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, the CMOS Battery is named RTC Battery. (Real Time Clock )

Replace the RTC Battery.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=1842189&

On the above page, scroll down, and left-click on the file name in blue -
HP Pavilion dv9000 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

Ignore the following if you are aware;

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

At the top of the PDF file is the page number box. It is to the Right of the Down Arrow.
You can use the Down Arrow to go page by page, until you arrive at the page you want, or you can do this;

1) Put your mouse cursor in the page number box.
2) Left-click once
3) Type the page number
4) Press the Enter key

Or you can use the Bookmarks menu to the left.

Go to Page 131.
5.7 RTC Battery

A) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) if plugged in, and remove the Battery. (Main battery)

B) I would advise buying an ESD wrist strap, and wearing it.
Connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)

Average cost is around $3 to $6.

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
Use an ESD wrist strap, and breathe easier.

Don't know if you have ever replaced a CMOS Battery in a desktop computer before, but the Battery is the same.

It is just soldered to two wires, and put into a small plastic bag that has a cable coming from it, with a connector on the end.

(NO, I do not recommend trying to solder wires to a CR2032 battery! May go BOOM)

http://www.vendio.com/stores/CMOSBATTERIES/item/hp-cmos-battery/replacement-cmos-rtc-battery-f/lid=3032230

The above is from a quick search. Scroll down for laptop compatibility

As you can see in the Service Manual, you need to remove;

1) The Memory Compartment Cover. Page 28
Table 1-8, Bottom Components

Number 6 points to the Memory Compartment Cover.

The RTC Battery is fixed to the laptop with double-sided tape.
New tape should come with the new RTC Battery.

    My laptop overheating and screen turns off then shut down, also the battery dont last more than ten minutes

    Hi:
    HP Pavillion has the tendency to get hot while in use, I don't think there is nothing wrong with it, You can buy one of those pads with fans if you want to, but that is not a guarantee that will increase the battery function time. You can do the following to replenish the battery and increase it's life...Without turning on your computer charge the battery until the green light comes on, then disconnect the charger and turn on your computer and let the computer on until the battery ran out of juice, ( During this period Do Not use your Computer). Then charge the lap top again without turning it on when the green light comes on, you can use the lap top. If this action does not increase the your battery use time, then it's time to buy another battery.

    Hello, If it a hard shutdown that you experienced, then, i should beleive that it is from the board. what i mean is that you have to change the processor of your laptop, then it will come back alive. But if it does not come back, you should know that the board has to be changed enterly.

    I have an HP Pavilliion dv7 notebook PC, dual-core processor, 64-bit Operating System running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. The sound has ceased working, both external and headphone...

    Sounds like the main problem is the shutdown and overheating. With that I would check what is running on the computer thats making it run so hot. Get on of those vista sidebars that show how much memory and cpu usage is going.

    As for the audio right click the audio icon in the lower left hand corner and open volume mixer check to make sure they aren't on mute. Also check that the button right in the center of the laptop that is usually blue I believe is indeed on. Else it would be muted.

    I opened my computer and it was on, but the screen was frozen so I shut it down and tried to reboot it, but it wouldn't turn on. I thought it was something to do with the battery being dead, so I plugged...

    It has something to do with the power supply of your unit or the motherboard itself, especially when you isolate the battery and plug only the power cable and i wont turn on. In this case, you can reseat the power supply by removing the cables and battery when the unit is off, remove the screws below it, remove the hard drive, remove the optical drive then remove the power supply and reseat it. Then perform the steps in descending order (insert optical, hard drive, screws, battery, cables). Turn it on and observe if there are lights lit on the keyboard. If you don't know how to do this or if symptom persists, consult HP tech support for repair of your laptop..

    How to remove my hard drive hp pavilion dv1000

    Please follow these steps.

    1) First of all, first unplug the power and also remove the battery.
    2) Flip over your laptop. Make sure that when you are looking at the laptop bottom that the battery slot is located on the top portion.
    3) On the lower right portion is the hard drive bay. You would notice two small screws on its left side. Loosen them up.
    4) Lift the left side up and swing it to the right and remove the cover.
    5) You would then notice a plastic or mylar tab on the left side lift the hard drive using that tab.
    6) Slide the hard drive towards the left and it will be removed from the hard drive bay.

    And that is it. That is how you remove your hard drive.
