So i spent the better part of this morning trying to figure this same thing out... here's what I found.

You need to identify the serial number, which is found on the unit hanging from the ceiling... it will be like a 13953970. I found mine behind the lamp light protector thing. NOT the back with the stickers. 41A5021 is actually not the number that is important.

then go to www.managemyhome.com its a website ran by sears. you have to register, for free. then go look for manuals, in one of the tabs running across the top of the site is a choice for manuals. then search by Craftsman then enter the serial number.

then pull up the owners manual and check out the instructions.

** i found out that the old house i bought did not actually have the same keypad opener as came with the craftsman. so i had to closely inspect all sides of the internal keypad opener (not the one outside) and find another serial number. then i went and got the manual from www.managemyhome.com and realized i needed to add a new 9-V battery before I could proceed. So now i'm heading out to walmart to get that.

after a frusterating morning of service number and internet searches I hope after I get this damned battery the clouds will part and god will shine some luck on me.

goodluck to yourself!

The garage key pad has stopped working

The most common problem for your situation is that the battery in your wallmounted key pad needs to be replaced. unscrew the little screw on the face of the device, remove the battery and replace it with one just like it. Radio shack usually has these batteries

Key pad does not always open door

It sounds like the contacts on the keypad are going bad. A new opener with the wireless keypad is the answer.

Garage door won't open.

The most common cause of this problem is the door sensors have been bumped and misaligned. They each have a small light that should be lit and not flickering. Tweak them until they are pointed at one another and the lights are lit.

Garage door opener doesn't work with key pad or remotes

It sounds like for some reason the receiver has lost the stored codes for your remote transmitters. The wired button goes right to the opener so it continues to work.

On the back of the opener you'll see a small pushbutton. Press it and the indicator light nearby will come on. While this light is on, press the button on your remote. The light will go out and the code is stored. Repeat this for each remote. The process is the same for the keypad, except that you need to enter your desired 4-digit code.

If this programming doesn't work you'll need to replace the receiver board. Like any other piece of computerized equipment, it can fail or be damaged by power line problems. But try reprogramming first, as that's the most likely solution.

If this has helped you, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks for asking here!

Garage door key pad

For most openers you don't need the old code.

Just press the program button on the powerhead enter the code you want in the keypad and press enter (within 20 seconds).
