There is a wallplate with 2 outlets and 2 switches that control 2 separate lights. while trying to install new switches and outlets, wires came loose and now I have no idea what is what.

Have you tried to determine if the problem outlets might be controlled by a wall-switch? This could be the case if separate black wires coming into the box are being used for the different outlets.

Your switch has 2 wires, and 2 brass screws, and new switch will have same.
Connect either wire to new switch.
Connect bare ground wire to green screw.
Turn power off, remove screws that hold switch into box, pull out switch, take photo of wiring, install new switch.
If wires are pushed into back of switch, then use small screwdriver and push into slot to release wire.

Each 120Volt electrical box has one Hot wire. This is true for ceiling and wall boxes.
Normally in a gang box, the Hot wire jumpers across all devices in the box.
Some switch boxes do not have Neutral wire. Neutral wires are usually white, and are twisted together and covered with wire nut and shoved to back of box.

Describe the wires that you have, and what each wire goes to for best possible answer.

When wires are pushed in, that is called a quick-connect.
Usually next to each quick-connect location is a slot for small screwdriver.
Push screwdriver into the slot very hard while pulling back on the wire, and wire will come loose.
Sometimes it is easier to clip wires off old switch and then strip back the wire for attachment to new switch.

Any off-the-shelf GFCI sold today with work on 12-2 wire:
By code, 12-2 wire should be connected to 20 amp circuit breaker, but typically most switches and outlets wired to that circuit are rated 15 amp. Amp rating is printed on electrical devices.

The black wire under the black screw...
and the red wire under the brass screw...

If it does not work right then switch the red and black wires...

You are installing a combo device with switch and outlet.
The outlet is tamper resistant so a child cannot stick a key into outlet and get shocked.
For the outlet to work, a 2-prong plug must be inserted.

Wiring the device:
Electricians don't guess, they test.
Device has different colored screws: dark, silver and brass.

Separate wires for testing.
Do not unwind wires that are twisted together.
White wires that are twisted together and located in back of box are included in testing.
Use ordinary 2-lead tester.
Tape tester leads to wood sticks to keep hands away from power.
Turn power ON.

Test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on Hot wire. This wire connects to dark screw.

Hot is identified.
Test Hot wire to all other wires, except bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on Neutral wire. Neutral connects to silver screw.
If you do not have a Neutral wire, then outlet will not work for that location.
You can get the outlet to work by connecting bare ground to silver screw, but that is violation of code.

Last wire goes to Load (light, fan, motor).
Load wire connects to brass screw.
In your case, this is red wire.

First you need to make sure that you do have a hot feed in this box. Do you have a circuit tester?

before u start make sure power is off before working with electrical lines ---start with the 12/2 coming into box black [power] white [ground-neutral] and u will have 3 separate lines for the lights so u will have 4 lines total coming in the box== with the 3 light lines take the white and strip back the plastic and connect [wire nut] all 3 to the 12/2 white line --now take the 12/2 black line and connect it to the first switch gold color screw- bottom screw -now take some wire about 2-3 inch strip both ends and connect from the 12/2 black wire connection on the switch and connect to the gold /bottom of switch 2 than do the same for switch 3 connecting the wire from switch 2 so u will have power feeding all 3 switches-- now connect the black lines for the lights to the other side of each switch and ur done
