Sony VAIO PCG-V505BX Battery life

When not connected to power and while using a fully bright screen - battery ends within 10 minutes - is this normal? or should I get a new battery?

The new battery is twice the size and it doesn't allow the screen to open fully

That is not normal definitely your battery has some problem and needs a replacement because a normal working battery should last for about 2 hours or more..

Taking Care Of Your Laptop Battery

Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions.
A new Dell Vostro A860 Battery needs to be fully charged and fully discharged or “cycled” as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity.
Your equipment may report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new Dell Vostro 1015 Battery is being charged for the first time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When this happens, remove the dell vostro 1015 battery pack and let it cool down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure.

HI my battery doesn't charge anymore. I'm not sure

battery is out....
change battery...the battery wears out with frequent charge and discharge...it has a running live of some 15000 to 20000 hrs

Sony Vaio PCG-K33 - The battery discharges when the computer is turned off. It will be fully charged when I leave work on Friday and by Monday is will be nearly fully discharged. Thanks, Scott

The battery has died and gone, time for a new battery or just keep using the ac adapter.

hello,

what you may have to do is write the OS on an other computer by linking the hard drive of the laptop to a computer with a CD ROM drive. after you write the OS on the hard drive you place it back on the laptop with no drives.

How can I adjust me laptop's brightness?

You really cannot adjust screen brightness through windows unless you have calibration software that uses a light detecting frame... I had a Sony Vaio PCG-something and Vista really screwed it up as well. Here's the Sony eSupport website where you can enter your model and reinstall some originals drivers for the computer that may restore functionality to your function keys:

Some things you can do to save battery power: turn of your wireless if you're not using it (there's usually a wifi switch on most laptops, turn it off), set your screen saver to come on as quickly as possible, run as few programs as possible and try to avoid graphic-intense programs.
