2 possible issues. If compressor running, but not cooling - No freon in the system, or compressor valves are bad, not compressing freon. Ideal would be to check pressures on the system while its running. Could be some kind of restriction. most common problem i would guess low freon level. Here are 2 of my videos i have on my channel. first is leak found at evaporator coils. i used leak dye to find it, second video is replacing compressor, but had compressor completely down. installed 3-n-1 hard start kit, but compressor did not come on, so replaced compressor with filter drier. Hope this will give you an idea what to do next.

I agree " fan runs and compressor seems to run" ------- But compressor should run while cooling cycle is going on, and compressor should stop running when defrosting cycle starts.------- In your case compressor is running non- stop. This is because the compressor is got weak, and the weak compressor is not able to cool the refrigerator fridge and freezer section.------- The problem is compressor, its got weak---------- Click this link below and follow the troubleshooting,:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/both-refrigerator-and-freezer-not.html ------------ This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: Does not cool. Compressor is running, fans are

Hi, Look in the freezer section and see if there is frost building up on the rear inside panel. If the is frost, on of three parts are bad in the automatic defrost.
If there is no frost, the compressor might be weak and not pumping the coolant as strong as it should.
Remove the rear inside panel in the freezer sevtion and see if the evaporator is frosting at all.
Please let me know what you find so I can assist you further with this issue.

depending on your model. if its just a reg, side by side, you more than likely need a relay/ overload which is located on the compressor, the relay only works after it cools down. unplug ref from wall, remove rear cover to see and touch compressor to see if it starts when you plug back in to the wall. if it doesnt start in three attempts. replace it. easy way to diagnose..

Freezer dying first, fridge failing...

Is the compressor running. also check to see if the fan next to compressor is running. They should both run at same time..is the compressor fan running and compressor not? Could be the compressor start relay. Next, is there frost buildup on inside back wall of freezer? If so u may have a defrost control out or defrost heater or defrost terminating thermostat out. Greg

Freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Kenmore side by side not cooling: The compressor seems to be running (it's hot), the compressor cooling fan is running, the freezer circulation fan is running, but not the least bit cool anywhere.

If everything is working, that you can see and hear, then I think you are low on coolant. A set of gauges will show you for sure or if you take the back panel off in the freezer and look at the cooling coils, they should have a light coat of frost all over. If it is low on coolant then they might have some frost on a few coils or none at all.
