Hello bvanora,
Unfortunately it doesn't appear that your software is compatible with windows 7. Windows 7 does have a compatibility mode which is suppose to let the program run as it would in an older OS. However a little luck is needed, as well as the hardware requirements. such as windows 7 pro, and up. 2 Gigs of memory, and "cpu hardware virtualization support" (although there is a work around for virualization)
To try running your program in compatibility mode right click on the programs short cut, click properties, click on the compatibility tab, check "run this program in compatibility mode", click on the drop down menu and select windows xp, also click "run this program as administrator", and click ok.
If you get an error, along the lines of "Cannot start windows virtual pc" follow the link provided, and download the appropriate update for your computer 32/64 bit. This is the work around i mentioned for virtualization support. So as long as you have win 7 professional or higher, as well as 2 gigs of memory you should be able to run your program.
Good luck

How to upload photos and documents in ancestry?

To upload photos and documents to your Ancestry account, follow these steps:
  1. Log in to your Ancestry account and open the family tree that you want to add media to.
  2. Select the person in the tree who you want to add media to.
  3. Click the "Add Media" button.
  4. Click the "Choose Files" button to select the photos or documents that you want to upload. You can select multiple files at once.
  5. Select the privacy setting for the media that you are uploading. You can choose to make the media public or private.
  6. Click the "Add Media" button to upload the files to your tree.
Keep in mind that Ancestry only supports files that are 15 MB or smaller and in a supported format, such as .jpg or .pdf. If your files are larger or in an unsupported format, they will not be able to be uploaded. Additionally, consider whether you want the media to be public or private before uploading. If you have any trouble uploading your files, you may want to try troubleshooting or contacting Ancestry customer support for assistance.

Just resubscribed to Ancestry, have existing trees, what do I look under to find them?

Hello, Valarie -

First you need to log into your Ancestry.com account.

Once you have done that, at the top of the page you should see a link for TREES.

With your computer cursor, left click on the TREES link. You will see a drop down menu listing the Ancestry.com family tree / trees you have established. Note: If you have a tablet or are accessing Ancestry via your cell phone, then tap on the TREES link.

Choose whichever family tree you wish to with a cursor click or a tap.

Best wishes.

I have a Vista (Windows) version of Family tree maker. I want to transfer my info from that version to a Mac version. Which versions will be compatible for the transfer??

There is a Family Tree Maker File Migration Utility that you run on the PC to convert either FTM 2010 or 2011 files to FTM for the Mac. Here's the link to the info on Ancestry.com:

Swift FAmily Ancestry v 2.0

I found a few places you can buy it, though none of them seem to specify if it's version 2.0.

You can purchase and download it directly from here: http://my-buy-it-now.com/products-page/downloads/swift-family-ancestry-family-tree-maker-downloadable/

Or you can order boxed versions to get shipped to you from these places:
disks o plenty
Amazon

Also, it looks like Swift Family Ancestry creates files in gedcom file format. Many other genealogy programs can open that file format, so if you found a different program that you liked better, you may be able to open your file with that other program, also.

My Family Tree designer software and VIsta OS

I checked the Cosmi website and could find no newer versions.

I would suggest you go with this newer version of Family Tree Maker.

http://www.familytreemaker.com/About/Default.aspx

It is quite extensive. Lots of features. Also, it is associated with ancestry.com. On-line tutorials are provided. Reasonably priced too.

Thanks for using Fixya.
