JED8430BD Wiring Just bought the same cooktop replacing a GE brand with a downdraft. When I connect, the fan smells and shut down due to the fact it seems to be only 110v and the cooktop is 220. I have 220 supply and need to know what how to connect...I have black, white, red, and ground on the cooktop, and white, black and ground coming from the supply...ideas?

From supply
white, black - should be hot then ground

On cooktop
red, black - should be hot white - neutral then ground

If you have a volt meter measure
supply
between white - black 220v
between white or black - ground 110

cooktop
between red - black 220v
between red or black - ground or neutral 110

If the above is confirmed
connect
red (cooktop) to white(supply)
black (cooktop) to black(supply)
white (cooktop) to ground(supply)

Regards

I have a Jenn-Air downdraft cooktop. My blower fan will not shut off. When I press down on the metal part the knob goes on, it will shut off. Can anyone help?

It appears you simply have a bad switch. Try contacting Jenn-Air or looking them up on the web to find out if they have replacement parts available

I want to replace my Jenn-Air cooktop model 89890. What is the easiest replacement cooktop?

Greetings!
I tried to look up your cooktop and only found it mentioned in several places, and thus did not get a complete description of your unit. What I got leads me to believe that yours is a downdraft model. Whether or not this is correct, you'll need to measure the underside (cutout) measurements of the cooktop and the physical dimensions of your unit within the cutout. Armed with this information, you should be able to make an informed decision. I recently replaced a Jenn-air (downdraft, with switchable cooking modules) and selected a GE profile modle JP 989SK1SS (stainless steel). We also considered Frigidare, Jenn-air and some of the higher enders as well. Our preference boiled down to features, keeping all of the appliances (mostly) in the same brand, and reliability. Ours swapped out very close deminsionally, and the installation was easy and neat. Decide on a brand. Most dealers have a brochure that list all of the critical dimensions of their appliances, and you should be able to decide what's best for you.
Hope this was of some small help. Regards, and good hunting!

My ge ceramic cooktop hot indicator light won't go out

I know that some people have mentioned that it looks like it's on, even when it's off. Depending on how the light hits it, it can look like it's glowing a bit. This would be normal.
