yes bulbs dont smell unless they pop plus its 3 bulbs in there, plus the tv would still have power/standby lights, and it's not that type of smell, replace the bulb but im sure this will not fix the problem, also my experience with dlp set it is often not worth repair, good luck you need more help or question just ask good luck
sometimes a leaky filter capacitor in the power supply primary section could caused this problem,or a loose solder connection in the power supply section
When the temperature light flashes then you have an overheating issue or at least the set thinks you do. It could be a bad temp sensor or as minor as the fan not working or an obstructed air path. The reason it won't come on is it is in protect mode when it senses a high temperature to protect the componenets. You will need to have the sensor check and also make sure all fans are working and there is a clear path for fresh air to cool the set.
