My dictaphone m5215 is faulty and I cannot transfer my recording to my computer. is there another way of getting the recording off this unit that is dysfunctional at the moment?

I am not fammiliar with Mac but I beleive if the device is connected and the Mac does not show it as a removable drive, it will not work. The only digital recorders that I know are Mac compatible are the Olympus models. A DS2400 would be the closest to the 5215.
Also, if you connect the portable via USB to your PC, it'll connect just like a USB memory stick and you can use Windows Explorer to transfer your dictation from the 'DSS' folder.
Can't you simply take the tape from the 2750 and put it into the other Dictaphone to play it? Or is the other Dictaphone a different size tape (eg; mini or micro)?
You'll need a digital recorder (Dictaphone makes one - a Walkabout Model 5220). Transferring a recording from an analog (tape) machine to a PC requires a patch cord to hook it up to your PC, then some sort of software to record it while it's playing back.
There is a small hole in the back of the unit. This activates the firmware update. My experiense is someone pushed this in with a pin and caused the switch to be stuck. You can disassemble the unit and use a pin to pry the bubble switch up or off. This switch is only needed to update the firmware which can also be done thre software so is not needed.
