How to change the ink cartridge

Follow these instructions when you need to replace print cartridges.

• Everyday printing: Use a black cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
• Color photos: Use a photo cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge.
To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to
access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for
changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not
docked safely when you try to remove them.
2. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
3. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print
cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from
the slot on the right.
1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge
2 Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges
5. Pull the print cartridge towards you out of its slot.
6. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print cartridge,
store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic
container.
7. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only
the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
1 Copper-colored contacts
2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing)
3 Ink nozzles under tape
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do
not re-tape the print cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad
electrical connections.
8. Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into
the empty cartridge slot. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firmly until it snaps
into place.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.
9. Close the print cartridge door.greatcir.png

I have a lexmark 2580, I keep getting 'unsupported cartridge' message, and one of the lights on the printer is constantly blinking. I have brand new lexmark cartidges installed.

Problem Unsupported Cartridge; Error: "Unsupported cartridge"; Incompatible cartridge error; Incompatible cartridge in the printer; Cartridge not recognized Solution What you will see
When a cartridge is inserted, an Unsupported Cartridge error message is displayed on the printer operator panel.
Affected printers
This issue affects printers sold exclusively in the Dixon Store Group (DSG) in Europe and in Circuit City in the U.S. NOTE: The cartridges for these printers are sold exclusively in these stores or on their websites.
Explanation
The printers listed in the table below are compatible with a #2 cartridge (in single cartridge printers) or a combination of #2 and #3 cartridges (in two-cartridge printers). They do not support the standard color 28A 35, and Mono 29A 34 ink cartridges. If the standard color 28A 35 or Mono 29A 34 ink cartridges are used in these printers, they will fail to print and the printer will post an Unsupported Cartridge error message.
Solution
Lexmark recommends using either a #2 cartridge for single-cartridge printers or a combination of #2 and #3 cartridges in two-cartridge printers.

Check print cartridge blinking cartridges refilled today and installed laptop not recognising printer as result

    • If the message on the computer does not identify a particular cartridge (it says only Print cartridge error ), follow the steps below to determine which cartridge is causing the problem.
      1. Open the cartridge access door.
      2. Remove either cartridge (not both).
      3. Close the cartridge access door.
        • If the computer message is Print Cartridge Error , then the print cartridge that is still in the printer is the problem cartridge.
        • If the computer message is NOT Print Cartridge Error (instead, it says that the cartridge you have removed is ...Either missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed), then the cartridge you have removed is the problem cartridge.

  • If the problem still occurs, the electrical contact between the cartridges and the printer might be bad. Removing and reseating the cartridges might help. Also, you can clean the electric contacts on the cartridges with a dry cloth.
Hope that will help solve your problem!

I have a hpdeskjet f2180 and need to change the ink cartridges. How do I get to the cartridges to change them !

Installing print cartridges
  1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on. CAUTION: If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not docked safely when you try to remove them.
  2. Open the print cartridge door. Figure 1: Opening the print cartridge door c00906461.jpg Make sure the print carriage moves to the center. If it does not move to the center, turn the device off and then turn it back on again.
  3. Remove the tape from both cartridges. Figure 2: Removing the tape from a cartridge c00651128.gif CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or re-tape the cartridges. Figure 3: Copper-colored contacts c00651129.gif
  4. Hold the cartridges with the HP logo on top.
  5. Insert the tri-color cartridge in the left cartridge slot and the black cartridge in the right cartridge slot. Figure 4: Carriage slots c00853116.jpg Figure 5: Inserting the tri-color cartridge in the left slot c00853117.jpg
  6. Make sure you push the cartridges in firmly until they snap into place. Figure 6: Pushing the cartridge in firmly c00853118.jpg Figure 7: Tri-color cartridge and black cartridge correctly installed c00853119.jpg
  7. Close the print cartridge door. Figure 8: Closing the print cartridge door c00906462.jpg
Aligning print cartridges The HP All-in-One prompts you to align cartridges every time you install or replace a print cartridge. You can also align the print cartridges at any time from the control panel or by using the software you installed with the HP All-in-One. Aligning the print cartridges ensures high-quality output. NOTE: If you remove and reinstall the same print cartridge, the HP All-in-One will not prompt you to align the print cartridges. The HP All-in-One remembers the alignment values for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the print cartridges. To align newly installed print cartridges
  1. Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray. The HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment sheet. NOTE: If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again.
  2. Load the print cartridge alignment sheet print side down on the left front corner of the glass with the top of the page to the left. Figure 9: Loading the alignment sheet c00906464.jpg
  3. Press the Scan (c00906465.jpg ) button. The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet.
