A friend has a vgn-fz420e model sony laptop. She gave it to me to fix because she it had viruses and would constantly freeze at random times. It had windows vista home premium installed on it, she has the product key, but no recovery disc. I have a copy of windows vista home premium lite, so i reformatted her harddrive, and reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows Vista Home Premium lite, with all the drivers. Everything was working fine except her webcam. I installed the correct webcam driver from the sony website, but it would not show up in the device manager list. After installed several different motion eye drivers with no luck, i reformatted her computer again and installed windows 7 professional(64bit). Now her webcam drivers are displaying correctly, but now her webcam is saying that another program is using her webcam when she tries to use it (with skype). I thought id give sony tech support a shot, with the 15 minute free chat support session, so i allowed them to connect to my computer, and instead of helping me solve the webcam issue, they got into my registry and deleted a bunch of my dll files, and then showed me a bunch of critical system errors, and wanted to charge me to fix everything. All of the sudden the "M" button on the keyboard was typing 0, and a few other keys were not typing the matching symbol. WHAT A SCAM. All I want to do is figure out what operating system I need to reinstall, or what I need to do to get her webcam to function properly again. can anyone help?

Strivinz : 'M' button became '0' whih means Numeric ON. (numeric : 0123456789) turn it off by pressing FN+Num lock.
And for your Operating system...Try using Vista Ultimate (works for my vaio vgn-s270b) or Windows 7 Ultimate (motion eye application might not appear > but you still can access the camera via devices and printers Section.

Sony vaio vng cr-353 slow fan

Generally there are a number of reasons causing your Sony Vaio laptop or desktop PC running slow or freezing. Common ones include lack of free disk space, registry corruption or redundancy, overload startup programs, virus attack, fragmented hard drive etc.

There are manual ways to get all those issues fixed but it costs time and energy, and most importantly it needs technical skills. So I'll recommend a quick yet easy speed up solution, as you can see here: http://www.sonyvaioslow.com/

Laptop Freezing Problem

To be honest this still sounds like a fan problem. The freeze will happen if the laptop overheats. Maybe you should have it repaired again by a different company.(ask for the fan to be replaced!)

Possibly you have a programme running in the background that is causing the freezes, could be a screensaver. i think at sometime microsoft will issue an update that will fix this problem.

Sony Vaio VGN-FS980 is slow

Aside from hardware many things can slow up your PC:
  • If the C: drive is too full Windows is unable to allocate a proper virtual memory cache on the drive.
  • Your chosen anti-virus solution can even slow certain machines down (post what your running)
  • A high % of the time it is spyware/malware related
Just to make sure the machine is completely malware free you should download and run this program.
