Machine was on a wash & then just started clicking through the programs. Turned it off & cleaned out the filter (now 36p richer). Started the wash again, machine filled with water and then just stopped!. The lights are on, but it won't do anything, not even making a noise to let me know its awake! Tried re-setting to drain the water out but it won't do that either. Any ideas?

SOURCE: washing machine

this clicking of the timer tells you there is a fault somewhere, this could be anything, you have to check things i would do them in this order check the heater element, most common fault second the pump but you said that works then check the motor that drives the drum belt look at the motor control board for any signs of burning etc, this could indicate a motor fault you have not given much info, but with a fault like this thats all you can say, i have given you a brief starting point what and where to look, so happy hunting if i can be of further help get back to me

SOURCE: indesit w93 washing machine fills with water but doesn't start washing

Hi there. I have an old model, the indesit WM12. Never counted the flashing light (yours was 10) but my dial started clicking constantly at the drain part. I called Idesit and they told me it was a blockage in the filter.
The filter they speak of it located, on mine, at the front of the machine at the very bottom on the right. It is a black dial about 3 - 4 inches in diameter. Unscrew that anti-clockwise (a real pain because so much water comes out. My wife and I unscrewed it, filled a baking tray with water, screwed it back up, emptied / substituted tray then same all over again - until empty. Though putting it on drain again and again helped at same time). When I pulled out the filter found a 'colour catcher' sheet in it. We used them first time ever the other day. Removed that, gave filter a wee clean and, hey presto, all is working again. Hope that helps. Jim

SOURCE: I have an Indesit washing

hi there,
If your washer won't spin, check these:

It doesn't pump or spin
It pumps, but doesn't spin
It spins only with the lid closed
It doesn't pump or spin
If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

* If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt.
To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it
doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn,
replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

* If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin
and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the
door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the
switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

It pumps, but doesn't spin
If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

* The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside
the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top
or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

* The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small,
relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the
motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

* A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or
badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing
machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

* The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper
spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the
clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance
repair technician.

* The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation
the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to
burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace
the entire motor.

* The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a
transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the
unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem,
you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

* The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub
to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during
the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.

It spins only with the lid closed
For safety, washing machines are made so that they spin only with the lid closed. The lid switch
prevents the spinning action when the lid is up.

* Is there hot water coming through the proper hose? If not, check to see if the screen inside the
water-inlet valve is clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the
fill hoses are attached to.) If it's clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so,
completely replace it.

When you start it the engine just runs and the machine doesn't fill up with water

Just beyond your filter that you cleaned you will feel some blades, plastic. These blades should turn freely, these are the pump blades, something shd be blocking it, which over flowed from your dirty filter.

Another thing is did your washer not fill with water on starting it? Well take of the power plug from the wall (imprtant before all these jobs!) turn off the washer, turn off the wall valve, unscrew the pipes to see if water flow is gud, check to see if anything is blocking your filters and he washing machine inlet valve. It has a fine filter and is detachable to clean.

Hi, our washing machine started leaking water underneath just the weekend gone. I didnot see where the water was coming from but my wife tells me that she started the washing machine as per normal as...

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occurs. Removing and Cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there is gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end. You have indicated that the spin was activated to drain off and so the drain exit seems good . Hence I would advice that you check the drain hose fittings and drain pump. Check once again to confirm if this was a program controller malfunction of the cycle. finally keep your machine in slight slant /tilt so that the water drains off fully to the exit valve.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Sorry but I do not know your particular machine and this might not be the answer BUT I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters. Here are my complete, general pre-typed guidance notes for checking filters and motors ;-0)
-------------------------------------
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and held in by a round cover/knob.

REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!

It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!

Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!

I set the machine to wash,it began to fill and several hours layer had filled to only 1/2 capacity with the timer showing the time remaining until the total wash time was finished. I turned it off and on...

It is possible that the inlet valve is clogged and so the water flow is restricted. You must obtain a good flow into the washer tank after the program is started.
So remove the inlet valve and clean the filter, clean the valve and set to test once again,
Since the program is delayed the program timer detects this as an error.

Ariston LBE12X will not fill

depends which program you started with if you started with drain or spin then the humming noise you heard is the pump energised but jammed. remove the filter again and check nothing stuck in the pump impellor - bits of bra wire are the favourites if you started with a wash or rinse program, the humming noise is the inlet valve energised but no water coming thro. check water is turned on and hoses not kinked
