HP PSC 2175 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on Mar 11, 2017

HP 2175 all in one. I have a carriage jam that will not clear. There is no paper jammed anywhere. I have been through all that and I have tried all the reset options but nothing works. But I notice a thin clear ribbon inside where the printer heads are has come loose. What is this ribbon for and how do I reattach it (to the left side of the printer)?. I reattached it to the left side and it stayed for a while but it is very slack and comes off again. I assume this thin clear ribbon serves a purpose - but where does it go? Does it feed behind the printer heads? Is it suppsoed to be slack? I cannot find anything to describe this ribbon anywhere. This carriage jam started after a power failure. I initially had the problem with the scanner failure. I was able to clean the scanner glass. That problem of the clicking sounds for the scanner have stopped. But now I have this problem. Help!

Not sure about your model. But that ribbon is very likely the cord that send information to your print cartridge. It is supposed to be slack so that the print cartridges can move left and right. If you are able to reconnect it and make it stay you should be good. Likely when it is in the furthest position it is getting too tight and coming loose again. Hopes this helps.

SOURCE: "clear carriage jam" message

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Carriage Jam

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam

  • Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
  • Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
  • Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Paper jam in fax how do I clear?

folow the instruction
1
Switch off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge to fade away before putting your hands or metal tools inside the chassis.
  • Step 2 Pin down the exact location of the jam. The three hot spots for a jam are the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and the print carriage, or between the print carriage and the output tray.
  • Step 3 Take off the front paper tray if the sheet got stuck while it was still in the front area of the printer. If the sheet jammed here, you should be able to see most of the paper.
  • Step 4 Pull on the sheet with both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper, leaving a chunk of it deeper in the machine.
  • Step 5 Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed tray area and the print carriage of the all-in-one printer. Carefully remove the jammed paper from the machine.
  • Step 6 Use the carriage access door to reach a jam further inside the all-in-one printer. You may need to move the print carriage out of your way to clear the jam.
  • Step 7 Return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

Paper jam. I am getting an error message to open door, clear carriage jam, and then press enter. I did that but proble persists. There is no paper in the machine, no jam.

It is most likely that there is still a piece of paper in the machine. Was the paper you removed from the machine torn? Are you certain you have all the pieces?
Most HP printers have an access panel on the back that you can open to retrieve paper jams. Many people don't know to open that panel and look for paper. Try that.
