Our model JA2M193N Edison dehumidifier runs but doesn't produce water, the coils get cold, but the fan doesn't come on. What do we need to do to fix it?

Check to see whether the fan has seized. It is very common for dust to gum-up the bearings which are usually Oilite bushes (sintered porous metal that is supposed to retain oil) If the fan is stiff to turn by hand the fan bearings will have to be cleaned and oiled. Rust releasing spray is ideal for cleaning the bushes. Afterwards a couple of drops of thin engine oil will do just fine. Any oil with a 10W rating or lower will be OK.

I have my Edison 40 running at the highest setting (lowest humidity) and it isn't lowering my humidity. The hose to my floor drain emits only a tiny drop once in a while. Is there something for me to...

Ronald, first, check the air in take filter for dirt and/or clogs. Also check your drain hose for a blockage, as well as the hose connection on the unit. In addition, if the cooling coils are dirty, this will cause the unit to strain to keep up. You should be able to access them, after you remove the air intake filter. Clean them with mild soap and warm water. Rinse and thoroughly dry them, before applying a very light coat of WD40. CAUTION: BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY SERVICE ON THE UNIT, TURN THE MASTER ON/OFF SWITCH TO OFF AND UNPLUG THE UNIT.

I assume you have one of the older Edison 40 Dehumidifiers, that doesn't have an LED readout. And this is where it can sometimes get confusing, when setting the humidity extraction level. Maximum doesn't always indicate the maximum extraction level. And in your case, I believe if you set it on Minimum, you would get better results. Always allow a minimum of 12" clear air space all around the unit, while in operation.

If, after you troubleshoot the above things and want to do a good in home test of the unit. Move the unit to the bathroom, plug it it in, turn it ON and set it for Minimum. Turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Do Not turn the bathroom exhaust fan ON. Close any window(s) that may be open. As you exit the bathroom, close the door. Wait 15 - 20 minutes before returning to the bathroom. Then turn the shower OFF and allow the dehumidifier to run additional 5 minutes. Turn the unit OFF and check the bucket for signs of water. If you find some, the unit is working as it should.

If you find n water in the bucket. The unit's compressor probably needs a recharge of refrigerant gas.As the level may be low.

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Compressor seems to be overheating although top is cool. Continues to run but doesn't collect water. Fan is working. Can't locate model number.

If the compressor motor is overheating, it's usually a result of low refrigerant gas in the cooling coils. Recharging is an option, if you can find a shop that will do it.

EDISON 25

It's possible that the coil has become extremely dirty. It can be cleaned, but to do it well requires removing the external housing to better access the coil. I had a similar problem where the dehumidifier ran and the coil became quite cold but would not condensate. A thorough cleaning has it working as good as ever. Compressed air is not sufficient to remove the dirt accumulation, it must be physically scrubbed or rinsed from the surface. I used a rag pulled back and forth to scrub between the coils in areas where I couldn't reach to dislodge the grime with my fingers.
