I have a Mitsubishi DVD player, model 4030. The disk will not engage. Having removed the cover I noticed that the disk will briefly spin, stop and maybe spin again, but not usually. If I push the disk to spin it will spin again briefly and then stop again. Eventually the message is received that there has been a "disk error".

This could be one of three things

1. Dirty reader head:- If you not got one, ge a DVD lens cleaner run it 3 or 4 times see what happens

2. Maybe needs re setting, rather like a PC, unplug, disconect ALL leads leave over night and re connect see, this worked for a friend of mine recently.

3. The reader that locks onto the digital date is corrupt.....time to buy a new one !!


More expensive to repair than replace

The problem you are noticing is due to a worn out motor that spins the DVD's. This is a VERY common problem in many players.
It will have to be replaced. It will cost over $40 to replace a motor so you are better off just buying a new one.

If when you insert the disk you hear a whirring and clicking noise, CD spins, and does not read, then that is a problem with the DVD lens.

The DVD lens try to focus on the DVD track, by moving lens pickup and spinning the disk, but cannot read the tracks because the lens is dirty or defective.

Try first cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaner disk. And also if you can see the lens from the outside try blowing some canned air on it.

If this still does not help, then the lens pickup may be faulty, in this case you often replace the whole DVD drive unit inside the DVD player.

have you check the all the big stores for one ? one of them will have it

The motor that spins the disk rests on rubber shocks. The rear shocks wear out over time allowing the disk to set uneven and rub eventually stopping the disk and giving a disk error. To fix simply put one small flat washer under each of the rear shocks this will level the motor and stop it from rubbing. 

I'm having an identical problem with my very new "Memorex DVD". After trouble shooting everything suggested in the manual, I'm on my way to buy another "new" dvd player. Definately will not be Memorex.

more times than not the laser is bad.

remove the 5 screws that hold on black cover. inside there is a white gear that will retract mechanism. Two gold screws on plate that covers dvd need to be removed. lift off cover and remove dvd.

Change your DVD player

I've had a couple dvd players with the same problem.Try replacing the spindle motor that turnes the disc.If that doesn't work try replacing the feed motor that moves the lazer.
