Hi i have a HP Deskjet 1050 printer and its still pretty new. However, the power light is flashing, the attention light is on and both the cartridge lights are flashing. I have read the instruction manual for help and tried the advice it gives no avail. Any clues as to how to solve this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

SOURCE: HP Deskjet F4180 colour lights flashing and printer offline

Hi I have exactly the same problem, and can't scan or make copies. I went to HP Online, and tried their advice, which didn't work. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00867129&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3177566&rule=25623〈=enHP's solution made me realise it might be a scanner problem. I made a wild guess and kept the cover above the glass panel open. Turn off your printer, lift the cover up and turn on again. The lights should stop blinking and you should be able to scan/copy/print. I guess the cover prohibits the device to scan properly causing the blinking lights. Hope this helps!

Under Attention, orange lights are flashing for black and white and color. I have put new ink cartridges in turned on and off and still flashing orange. Wher it says Start/Copy, a big E is flashing. ...

I would try to remove both ink cartridges.
Close cover and turn off printer and unplug from outlet.
Wait at least 15 minutes, this will let printer to completely reset.
Turn on printer and wait for printer to stop.
    Install both ink cartridges.

Out of paper light flashes even after paper is loaded

Flashing resume light also can mean:

    1. cartridge is missing or an incorrect print cartridge is installed
    2. cartridge is out of ink
    3. dirty cartridge contacts
    4. paper jammed

Check are cartridges firmly snapped into place and not empty. Use water to wash copper on cartridges if contacts are dirty.

Does the carriage move and home out when you power up the printer? If not, look inside the cavity where the carriage assembly is and look for a skinny little piece of plastic, it should be anchored on either side of the printer frame with a small spring on one side. it should go thru the carridge assy. This is the encoder strip. The carriage uses it for reference when it moves. If this strip has been knocked out of position the machine almost immediately signals an error, (attention light flashes). If this is the case, then the challenge is to A-find the spring and B-reattach the encoder strip. Good luck.
