First thinkg I'd do is to connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if you can get an image, any image, during booting. If you can't see anything, either using the laptop's screen or external monitor, then you have a hardware failure in the laptop that's probably beyond the abilities of a novice to repair. Get somebody who knows about how to clear the CMOS of the laptop.

SOURCE: My Sony Vaio VGN NW225F laptop won't start up.

try to connect your laptop to an external monitor. if it displays on the external monitor, then your screen is bad. if it won't show up on the external monitor, then your video card might be bad. here is another idea, i don't know if its true or not, i saw a link on the internet, where is says to take out your RAM and clean it very good then put it back in and try out your laptop... hope this helps

SOURCE: My Sony Vaio VGN NW225F laptop won't start up.

I have the same problem with my NW225F and replaced the battery. Unfortunately the symptoms remain and the battery will not charge up. I have to physically reseat the battery to get the laptop to power up after a power down. I am beginning to suspect a design flaw in the power control system to the battery. Sony's "smart" battery charging system may be the culprit but I will have to put the laptop on my Bro's electronics bench and see if we can scope the problem. If I find it is a design flaw, I will announce it to the world so Sony can be accountable because they deny it is their problem as of now. Try the battery reseating maneuver and see if it fixes the startup and please post the response here so we can collect so,me anecdotal data.

What would be the probable cause of a sony vaio fs830/w of starting up & the 3 green leds on top stayed lit

You were FORMATTING it? Meaning... you were erasing the operating system? If that's the case, then... you have no operating system and the computer cannot boot up because it has no operating system to boot into.

Won't boot up and fan not running

Sounds like a dead battery or power supply or both...check for a light on the power supply to prove it's connected.

Sony vaio vgn-nr285E battery won't hold a charge

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Usb port are not working. need to install driver. model sony vaio VGN-SZ483N

If you can get the laptop online, then go to the Sony website ( click here ). You should be able to download the correct driver. If your laptop won't go online, you may have to burn the drivers to a disk in order to install them.

I have a Sony VGN-CR220E. It would turn on but all I see is a black screen. The green light on the bottom lights up but all the rest won't light up anymore especially the 3rd light that would blink,...

One thing to try is if you can, connect an external monitor to the computer. Turn it off and then back on with the external monitor on. If video on the external monitor then the problem is with the laptop monitor most likely the FL inverter or the lcd itself. If no external video, it is most likely a motherboard problem.

My sony vaio vgn-nw320f was totally dead.i had pulled up the battery cause it could not log off.please help me.....

Most sony laptop power supplies have a power LED that indicates if the device is A) plugged in {ok it happens!}, or B) fried and not providing power to the laptop. Check this first. If the power supply is plugged in and the LED is on (usually green or red) then see if you have ANY lights on the laptop itself. Its possible that your LCD display went bad but that the laptop is otherwise running. You may see a power, hard drive or wireless network light on if the laptop works but the LCD went bad. You can also connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up to check the LCD.
I've also seen where the battery goes bad and it keeps the laptop from booting. Try removing the battery and power up (with the ac adapter plugged in) again.
If neither of these helps, you may be looking at some kind of internal short on the motherboard which is big money. Hopefully that isn't the case.
Hope this helps!!
