I've had my camera for 8 months & it just stopped working about 2 months ago. I thought the battery had just died & tried recharging using different cables, outlets & computers. No matter what I do, it simply will no longer power up. Any ideas?

May be from a short inside (loose screw), possibly a bad battery caused it, or maybe just failed. Try this site: www.camerasandparts.com They are just great for the Powershots that need reviving. That's all they deal with are these Canon Powershots and they are great all around. They have a service package on their site for your specific problem on the SD1300 and for $79, you get the repair, the service for the camera and shipping back included. Probably the best place out there for service on these models, they do very professional work on these cameras. Good luck with it.

Can't turn on

I have similar issue. The batteries were left in the camera for more than a month. After battery recharge it worked for few snaps and stopped working while taking a snap. After that I tried charging battery but it seems to not work anymore. I suspect battery is dead. I have ordered new batteries, lets see if that makes it work.

If unused for any length of time, rechargeable batteries lose their ability to retain a charge. Try it with a brand new, fully-charged battery. FWIW, I recharge all my camera and flashgun batteries monthly.

My canon powershot a495 has a problem. it always

Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in today's power hungry digital cameras. Some batteries may also have reached their shelf life at the store, and though brand-new right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. The one's that came with your camera are just to show you that the camera works, but as you've discovered, they'll only last for a few pictures. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with modern rechargeable batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you should see the same recommendation.
Modern rechargeable batteries have over 5 times the power density of alkaline batteries (that's right, they last up to 5 times longer than an alkaline battery. And you can recharge them over and over!). Keep in mind rechargeable batteries will save you much money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Hi, It almost sounds like the battery won't hold a charge anymore which means you need a new battery. Since the camera isn't quite a year old yet I'd suggest contacting Nikon and seeing if they'll do anything for you before you buy a new battery.

There is a temporary fix that works sometimes but eventually it will stop working alltogether. If canon can't help, might try this:

Samsung s500

Hi jenn8918,
I had the same problem until a friend of mine told me to use Energizer LITHIUM batteries instead (Silver and blue packaging).
I will warn you ahead they are expensive (1 pack of 2 goes for about & $ 8:00 to $9.00 but they last quite a while (and I use my camera every day practically) they last me about 3 to 4 months. using anything other than the Lithium batteries is a waste of money ...believe me, I've learned my lesson by trying every "super" alkaline battery only to quit on me after 1 hrs use!

Good luck.
