I have a 1986 Yamaha MaximX 700, i have cleaned the carbs with carb cleaner and seafoam, but when i start it, the only way to keep it running is having the choke all the way on and twisting the throttle only a little bit, please help tell me what's wrong.

SOURCE: 2003 Yamaha wrf 250 only runs with the choke on

possibly water in your fuel.... it's a small tank so just put about a quarter bottle of gas line antifreeze in the tank... it's alcohol so it will **** up the water. there is also the possibility the fuel is somewhat dirty... change the fuel filter as well

SOURCE: Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

hello and welcome
this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.

SOURCE: 2003 yamaha wrf 250 carb problem

(1) You will need to adjust the float pin to get the correct amount of fuel in the float chamber of the carburator.
(2) You will also need to set the air-mixture screw , but before you do tht remove the spark plug and see whats the condition of it, is it black , is it brownish, or is it whitish.
If its blackish = means rich too much of fuel, if its browinsh= ok, if its whitish = its too lean.
(3) As for hesitation, check the needle at carbs piston on the accelerator cable, and blow the main jet with high pressure.
(4) Check too the spark plug gap and if its as per the manufacturers specs.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Will not run without choke

have you checked for vaccuum leaks at the intake manifold? you can check by pouring water over the gasket area when/ if you get it running!

SOURCE: Won't idle without choke

The pilot jet controls the air/gas fuel mix at idle . If the jet gets plugged up not enough gas gets to the emgine at idle. You will need to remove the carbs and float bowls and clean them, paying special attention to the pilot valve. Count the number of turns to remove the pilot screw and replace the same number of turns then turn counter clockwise 1/2 turn.

My Yamaha runs rough on one cylinder, unless you spray starting fluid in the intake, then it will smoth out and run great until you stop spraying.

If This Engine Has Rubber Boots Between Carb And Intake Port(Head) The Clamps May Be Loose Or The Rubber Boot May Be Cracked Or Permeated( Leaking Air, Lean Condition). Never Use Starting Fluid To Test It Will Wash Oil From The Cylinder Wall. Use WD-40 It Contains A lubricant.

I have a Yamaha XJ700X Maxim It will start fine and idle briefly but when I try to give it gas with the throttle it dies. I have cleaned carbs and resynced them but still no luck. Could this be a airflow...

You may have a air leak around the carbs either where they connect to the head or the air cleaner if it will run with the choke on you have a leak and it is trying to **** air

I have a 2005 Yamaha V-Star Classic and has only a little over 1,000 miles on it. Is there an easy way to clean the carbs while still on the bike. Bike not runing and have to open chocke to keep runing....

Yes, you need to run some fuel carb cleaner in the fuel.
Not sure where you are but in the US its called seafoam, or in Europe forte cleaner, make sure its one for petrol.
Make sure your fuel filter is replaced as well just in case there is rubbish in there.

Engine starts and runs fine for about a minute

try to clean out the carb first with auto parts carb cleaner, then you may need to buy a totally new carb for the unit, as this company will NOT sell parts for these carbs due to the carb setting is sealed & has to stay at a set level for voltage output and setting

most likely the carb is clogged with old gas. normally caused from letting the gas sit without running the bike for a while
