Did this come with a recovery disc and you lost it? If it didn't come with one you may have a recovery partition that you can boot to. If there IS a recovery partition you should see a message on bootup that will tell you what button to push to startup to the recovery partition. If you DON'T have a recovery partition your only options are a clean install with a Windows installation disc or to call emachines (gateway) to see if they have a disc to send you.

You can contact them by following the instructions here:

How do you put the Windows XP back to factory default in the start?

There's two ways, one is using system restore and using the oldest restore point, as long as the points weren't deleted to increase storage space.

The other way is to use a windows XP install disk and doing a fresh install of XP.

As for a system, you can restore a system like a pre-built, say a eMachine using the recovery partition or recovery disks.

Have emachines 3240 i want to factory reset i have a restore dvd ver 1.1 3240. how can i reset it using dvd

Dear foxhugh,

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Your eMachine should automatically boot from the DVD once it is inserted. Please backup and important data to an external drive or other device before running the Factory Restore.
Follow the factories on-screen prompts to restore the drive.

How do i restore emachines 3240 back to factory settings

If your windows installation has no damage and you can access your desktop, emachines should have a utility that you can access the recovery wizard from there. If not ,during boot you should have a message for a sort period of time that say "hit F10 or F12 to launch the recovery utility)

I have an Averatec 3200 xp home edition. It was a gift. All that came with it was the power cord. How do i reset factory settings?

If laptops do not come with an installation disc, sometimes there is a setting in the BIOS which will allow reseting to factory settings. When the computer is first turned on, it will usually provide a specific key to access the BIOS or setup screen.

Hi, i got a compaq v5000 with windows media center edition 2005 had a couple viruses on it so i nuked it, but only had a windows xp home edition 2002? disk. plus i didnt have the key for the disk so i...

I would suggest you to use the factory reset disc which you should have got along with the laptop and get your computer back to factory settings and if you do not have the disc then i would suggest you to call microsoft at 1800-936-5700 (U.S Toll Free number ) and they would be generating a new product key based on the part number which is at the back of your windows XP CD.

Need to restore my t5234 to factory but have no disk

If you're running windows xp home edition and you have a windows disk you can reinstall windows and get the drivers from www.emachines.com. This same link might also have the restoration cds for about 25 bucks. check it out and good luck.

How do i factory rest my 3240

First try the "Restore" function to the earliest date. If that doesn't work reinstall using the install cd. I tried to lok it up for you but you need the series as well as the model number. See link below:
