Just out of the blue my printer will not print black. Although the cartridge was not empty I put in a new one, but still not black printing, not even on a test page. One day it was working and then out of nowherem it isn't. Can anyone help?
Have you tryed a head clean? try this if it still does it what i did when mine did this i found it was the ink cart take the ink cart out get a cotten woolplug cut one end off and stick it in the bottem of the ink cart with the other end that still got the wool on just clean insite printer where cart goes regards mark
I notive that this is an old post, but I found it recently when experiencing the same problem. So just in case others are still coming across this problem what worked for me is to run a number of print head cleaning in a row... five or so at first... then do a nozzle check... keep repeating this process and hopefully like me you'll eventually see some black lines start to appear on the nozzle check print out. Keep going until all lines are on the print out! I also use non-epson ink... I haven't had this problems with the other colours though, having said that they are not used as much as the black!
Hope this helps someone!
You need to take it a couple steps further after your test print. Sounds like your print heads need cleaning or your cartridge may need aligning. It's best to do this each time you install a new cartridge. get more information and help from here .Hope this helps you.
SOURCE: my Epson Stylus R300 will not print black
After changing (genuine) cartridges and performed print-head cleaning from the computer at least 3 times consecutively, the printer needs servicing / replacement (if warranty permits).
Known fact (any printer make) : Having your printer repaired costs more then having a new one.

SOURCE: Gradually stopped printing, first colors, then black. New cartridges no help.
check all the catridge installed ok after finding the gatridge ok if the problem not solved , then uninstall the printer driver and restart after restarting the machine then again reinstall the printer driver properly

Epson Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
Hello, In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also in Purchasing the Brother's . Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.
These printers have a chip, that will detect if it is Generic or Genunie. When using Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.
That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.
So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......
I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.
This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.
Thanks and Good Luck :0)
