Purchased in October of 2005, not yet even three years old and I'm getting an intermitent high pitched whine. What can I do?
I have had the same high pitch tone problem for several months after about 20 minutes of use. It is so bad it's rendered the TV almost unwatchable. I contacted a repair place from Samsung's website. I was told that is likely the flyback transformer. I don't know what it is, but it sounds cool like a flux capacitator. I was told it would be about $100 to fix. However, I have had very little luck getting the repair shop to order the part and do the work.

wow - I have exact same issue - high pitched hum at back of TV. Seems an electrical problem related to the picture tube or display unit - because changes in images on TV affect loudness or frequency. Sounds bad, but when I bang on it - I can get it to go away temporarily. Always comes back though. Annoying!
Can this be fixed in a low cost manner at a repair shop?
