Tip & How-To about Apple iPod touch

How do I Clean iPod Ear buds

IPod ear buds can get grungy from regular use and should be cleaned and disinfected frequently. If your iPod headphones with others, there is potential for the transmission of germs and infections. Be sure to immediately disinfect your earplugs if someone uses them.

Soap and water clean

1. Disconnect the headphones from the iPod.

2. Mix a mild soap with warm water. Dampen lint-free cotton with soap and water mixture. Wipe the earphones with a damp cloth. Do not get water into the holes.

3. Enter the cloth under warm running water. Rinse to remove all soap. Twist the cloth to dry. Wipe the earphones to eliminate soap residue.

4. Rub a clean, dry cloth over the headphones to dry them.

Disinfection with hydrogen peroxide

1. Buy a solution of hydrogen peroxide 3% or disinfectant wipes. This product is available in pharmacies and supermarkets.

2. Dampen a clean lint-free cloth to clean the peroxide and the headphones.

3. Wipes clean with a pre-designed for cleaning hearing aids if you do not feel comfortable using a solution of hydrogen peroxide. These scarves are not guaranteed damage plastic, silicone or rubber.

4. Carefully wipe the headphones with a clean, lint-free.

Losing sound in my Shure ear buds, they are one year old.

the wire breaks after a while in ear buds ,and head phones due to the constant flexing, and moving.they probably need to be remade.by cutting out the bad part of the wire(usually close to the fitting)You can usually wiggle the wire and find where the breaks are that way.it can be a real pain re soldering ear buds.also check the plug end by wiggling the wire there.

Only the left ear bud has sound

Hey NoRightSound,

If your earbud headphones function normally with other devices, there are a number of reasons why this problem may be occurring, including faulty connections within the iPod itself or a potentially defective headphone jack. While both of these issues can typically be resolved fairly easily, I would first suggest contacting your local Apple-authorized service center for a complete diagnostic to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.

Remember that if your iPod is still under the original manufacturer's warranty, you can always call Apple directly for technical support over the phone in addition to working with a technician in your area.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
