When you print a test page from the general tab of the printer properties dialogue, it completely bypasses the print spooler. Since your test pages print correctly, this tells us quite a bit. Some of it good and some of it bad.
The Good:
The printers, base driver install, connections and protocols are all functioning correctly.
The Bad:
The printers, base driver install, connections and protocols are all functioning correctly making it much more difficult to pinpoint the problem.
JetDirect printing through the print spooler can be trouble prone with no clear solution. The fact that the 2600n is a host based GDI printer can make it even more so however I still have a couple of things to try.
1-Search for Localspl.dll and check the version number, file size etc. etc. If it is anything other than:
(32 bit x86)
Localspl.dll 5.2.3790.4046 342,016 23-Mar-2007 20:24 x86
Or:
(64 bit x64)
Localspl.dll 5.2.3790.4046 750,080 23-Mar-2007 22:15 x64
then request a copy of this file from Microsoft here:

See KB934885 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934885
for more info. You may want to try the registry tweak there to see if it can help pinpoint the problem as well.
2-Download the latest firmware for the 2600n from HP. There have been at least 2 firmware updates that I know of for this printer. I don't know if any of the updates fixed issues with network printing but at this point it can't hurt.

An office I support has lots of these and over the course of time every pc has had this issue.
The only solution I've found was to delete the printer, reinstall it, use the 1022nw drivers and uncheck advanced printing features once installed.

The issue is with the print spooler. If the operating system is XP then click on start >> run >> type services.msc >> the services window opens, now locate the print spooler and right click on it and select stop(if it is started) then again right click on it and then click on start. Now the spooler service will start, then try installing the all-in-one software.

my computer dosent print on my printer
SOURCE: Cannot print on shared printer
I had the same problem with HP 1018 printer, when I had two computers connected to a domain and had Windows XP SP3 on them and when I shared the printer on one of them - I could only print from the network if the user belonged to the Local Administrators group on the host/server computer. Once the network user is removed from Administrators - the print jobs are stuck in print queue. I used the "HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" that is on HP web site for HP laserjet 1018 printer.
Then I tried to use a different driver for that printer and was successful with driver for HP LaserJet 1020. After forcing that printer to use the 1020 drivers, the regular users were able to print to that printer.
