Peavey Vypyr 100 Guitar Combo Amplifier (100 Watts 2x12 in) Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 08, 2011

This is on a 15 watt Peavey Vypyr. I have a buzzing at the bottom end of my amp, when playing on the low E string. I plugged in my headphones and the buzzing went away while playing. I have also raised my action significantly and it does not buzz when it is not plugged in. What would the problem be?

The voice coil on the cube speakers must be scraping against the magnet.Or the speaker cone must be damaged causing it to flutter at low frequency where there will be large cone movement. Try removing the phono jack from your musical instrument/ guitar and touch the tip of the jack with your finger. You will hear a hum, now turn down the volume and listen to the speakers very closely and see if you can identify the flutter. All the same you will have to fix the speaker or replace it. Have you ever dropped the speakers, if so the speaker frame could have warped causing the scraping noise.

I hooked up my amp and touched my finger the the exposed end of my 1/4" input and i swept the volume from high down to 0, and there was no flutter that I could hear. I have never dropped my amp. If its the voice coil on the magnet is there a easy way to fix it, or would i be better off getting a new amp?

If its the voice coil or magnet all you have to do is replace the speaker, but if you hear no flutter the speakers are OK.

I have a Peavey Vypyr 3 amp that has sound ONLY on the headphone. The solder joints on the jack board are good. Where should I check next?

First - Check the connections on the speaker itself - when speakers don't work. it's usually the wires from the power amp section to the speaker. If those are OK, try replacing or bypassing the headphone jack - you may have a short in the output jack. Good Luck

I'm running my Peavey Vypyr 15w through this cabinet with a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and a speaker cable, and the cab is producing sound, but the volume is very low and stays the same at every setting

This is a VERY low level output designed for headphones and will not drive a cab directly, you'll need an amp, take it to line in of an amp and all should be fine (REMEMBER This is designed to drive stereo headphones so is a TRS Right,Left,Screen. If you plug it into a mono input you will probably be shorting out one side of the peavey's output so get a splitter.

Peavey Vypyr 100 stops working after 3 months of ownership, what's wrong?

Sounds like you blew a fuse. You should locate the fuse and replace it. It might just be the fuse, but fuses usually when something's very wrong.
Try replacing the fuse. You might be lucky.

I want to connect my amp to my pc

use a mini adapter to a large one.(3.5 to 1/4) or mini headphone jack to 1/4 headphone jack.plug a male3.5 into your outgoing headphone jack or from the pc convert the other end of that cord to get you to the proper size or 1/4 head phone jack.the primary cord from the pc needs to be a male to female cord.they make adapters that will get you the rest of the way.3.5 mini male to 1/4 phono female.then you plug your amp in to the 1/4 female.wala

Check power supply fuse inside cabinet, if this is ok you may have good reasons to suspect that your power module got fried.
