All top load machines have a braking system to stop them spinning when the lid is opened.. Most have a mechanical system which, although sometimes noisy, does not damage the machine.....However, direct drive machines like fisher & paykel may have an electronic system which converts the motor to a generator, which slows the spin....The generated power in this type of machine can cause damage and the lid should never be lifted while the machine is spinning.....Check with your brand's service agent... To open machine take two flat head screwdriver and gently insert them in top of front panel about 3 to 4 inches from side and push in to get clips to compress and lift top panel of machine. This will give you access from top side. If you need more room there are two screws, one on each side of front panel, remove and pull panel forward and up. Reinstall in like manner.

These are plastic and will need to be replaced with new.
Once you have sourced new hinges then the machine top needs to be opened,
Electrically Isolate the machine, then at the joint between the machine front panel and top insert a flat blade 4" from each side to release the lid catches, tilt back the top to access the screws on the hinges and replace with new.

most have a few screws at the back of the machine holding the top in place.....once you have taken the screws out, slide the top forward....please make sure you unplug the machine prior to opening it up

You probably have hoses and sump pump plugged/jammed by not enough to the machine from operating, my machine leaked prior to cleaning out all the hoses and sump pump
