a different laser is used to read CDs than is used to read DVDs. The laser for you CD reader has most likely gone out of alignment. It's time for a drive replacement.
It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.
To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:
CD writer only burns and reads CDs.
Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.
Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.
As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.
you can check by disabling all other driver to boot except from cd rom. if it fails again then try with a new bootable cd written in low speed, if still it fails then try with a new rom
Please note that the formats of DVD and CD are quite different. Whereas a DVD drive can handle both DVD and CD, a CD drive can only handle cd formats. Furthermore, a drive that reads both formats does not necessarily mean it can handle the writing aspect ok. You need a drive that is capable of writing/burning DVD. Most drives that come along with pcs can only write CDs but able to read both. So check your drive to see whether or not it can write on DVDs ok. Good luck
Could be a bad drive, as DVD lasers are a little different than just CD lasers. The laser may be bad for one, but the other can work. I had this issue, had to buy a new drive.
