Model M6X08F2B-C, the common fan motor for both the condenser and the evap coils will not turn on more than a second or two and only moves the fans ~ 10 to 20 deg, then stops and then tries again. During this time the compressor did start and then stop. I thought it must be the fan/motor shaft or bearings??

SOURCE: coil piston

If you purchased it as a package the right piston may already be installed in the indoor Evaporator coil. When shipped the extra piston if needed is packaged with the outdoor section condensing unit.

SOURCE: need recommended sub-cooling and superheat for

Superheat should be 8 to 12 degree's. Sub cooling around 18-22. I like to use superheat that way I know the coil is doing all it can do.

SOURCE: I have a 5,200 BTU Maytag window AC. The fan will

Hi Tom, The capacitor for the compressor and fan is behind the control panel. The capacitor has 3 terminals one terminal is common one terminal is for the compressor and one terminal is for the fan motor. If your just getting a hum / buzzing sound most likely the fan motor part of the capacitor has failed.

I am using this model number for a parts reference: M7X05F2A
Part numbers for the capacitor are: CRC160500710961 and 160500710961 ($34.10 most sites)
The part can be found here:
http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/search/partinfo.php?partsID=281318&modelsID=&typeName=air%20conditioner

If you do a capacitor change... with the unit unplugged ground all of the terminals to C and then move the wires ONE at a time from OLD to NEW capacitors.

To test the capacitor you probe C to another terminal.. reverse the leads and probe again. You looking for a very brief jump in resistance and then the meter drifts to infinity. None of the terminals should read continuity to the case of the capacitor.

This should get you going unless the blower motor has failed (I doubt that it has)
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Last week told we needed new evaporator. 2nd guy: it was not the evap replaced the tubing, had 2 ob leaks. recharged, fridge worked and then heated up again. notice door center edge is hot.

FRIDGE COILS or door walls SEEM VERY HOT:

The condenser coils do get hot. They can even be to hot to comfortably touch and this is normal.

The refrigerator should not run constantly but shut off with each defrost cycle.

Running constantly and never cycling off can indicate a cooling problem.

One thing to try is to wait till it has been running a few minutes then open the door and turn your cycling thermostat towards the off position. It should cycle off before getting to the off position on the dial.

If it does not cycle off then it's not getting cold enough to satisfy the thermostat. This is likely the reason the refrigerator runs all the time.

A thermometer in a glass of water can be used to check the temperatures in the refrigerator section.

You can check that all fans are running.

the reason the outer side of the door seal area is getting hot is the compressor is over heating, probably the condenser fan motor to your compressor is bad.
It should be a little warm but not hot. they don't use heaters anymore ( some older models still use heaters) around the doors, instead they use the condenser coils to remove condensation and moister, you might want to check your condenser coils on the bottom or back of fridge to see if they need cleaning
If the condenser coils/condenser fan are all plugged up they need cleaning and/or the condenser may fail or has failed..

The ones that use an electric heater will have an "energy saver" switch that will turn it off.: God is the reason I give you free advice so God is good!

Fridge FAN CONTINUALLY STAYS ON OR SHUTS OFF WHEN DOOR IS OPENED:

NORMALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS U EITHER HAVE A DOOR CONTINUALLY OPEN ISSUE OR A BAD DOOR SEAL LETTING AIR IN AND CAUSING FAN TO OVERWORK ITSELF. ANOTHER CAUSE CAN BE DIRTY COILS AND CONDENSER AND LASTLY NOT TO COMMON IS A SHORT IN THE FAN SYSTEM ITSELF. A MORE PROBABLE CAUSE COULD BE BAD THERMISTORS OR EVEN COLD CONTROL THERMOSTAT ( WHEN THE THERMISTORS OR THERMOSTAT DO NOT GET/GIVE A PROPER READING, THEY CAN CAUSE THE FAN TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE AS THEY FAIL TO RECOGNIZE OR REGULATE THE PROPER TEMPERATURE.

Why would evap fan running slow

If u turn the fan by hand and it turn then u need a new fan, and i think u are mixing up the fans, the fan inside the refrigerator would be the evaporator fan if that was broken then your compressor would be cold, the fan inside the compressor section would be the condenser fan, if that was defective then your compressor would be hot causing the compressor to short cycle. change the fan and clean your condenser coil and your problem should be gone,

My GE GSL 25JFPABS Refrigerator failed yesterday. No Comressor no evap or condensor fan

Fan motor starts with the compressor. Sounds like you need a main board and condenser fan motor. Call GE. It might be covered under warranty. A known issue with certain models. You will also need serial # if you call.

My fridge gets really hot on top and between the fridge and freezer where the door meets

next time send the model number and brand name.usually when this happens is the condenser fan motor isn't working.pull the fridge out, remove the bottom back panel and check the fan to see if it's working,if it is check the condenser coil to see if it's filled with lint and dust,it could just need to be cleaned out but if it's that hot most likely the fan isn't running,if you get this tonight check it now,if the fan isn't running you could blow the compressor, the condenser fan blows and keeps the compressor cool enough so it doesn't overheat by moving the hot air and the heat also esscapes through the condenser coil so if that's clogged with dust the machine will run hotter than normal,if the fan isn't running you can stick any window fan back there and blow it onto the compressor to keep it cool until you fix the condenser fan motor, this way you won't loose any food and if the compressor goes it's new fridge time,to much to repair.hope this helps and good luck with your machine.one more thing,i've found the fans not running and by pushing the blade it runs again,if this happens the fan could run and never have a problem or it could stop an hour later but i would change it out no matter what.if it's a G.E. fridge and the motor isn't running, most likely it will be the computer board,i've found 10 machines doing this and the temp. settings turning on and off or the evap fan motor in the freezer runs slow and then fast and the condenser fan isn't running or running slowly, this is why you have to send the brand name and model number.

Sometimes get a loud screeching noise from the condenser fan motor. Also seems to be loudr than usual. Motor part no. is:S070. Can a "do it yourself" guy replace the unit?

If this is wall/window unit, you can do it but it can be tricky. the fan in window units usually has 2
shafts on either side , it drives fan for both the condenser and evaporator. You basically have to pull the top off, loosen set screw on both blades, remove some screws to move back condenser coil(gently, don't kink tubing) similar process on evap side. Then mount new fan motor, wire it in put fan blades back on in proper position, reassemble unit, test run on bench.

The intake side, evap or condenser coil, (not sure which) ices up, not allowing airflow. best fix?

After the ice melts and you turn on the unit and your fans work the problem is your unit is low on freon normally R22 you will need to have someone who is licensed to fill it and ck for leaks. If your fan does not run replace fan first if fan runs but low air flow thru condenser or evap coil clean coil first. good luck i believe your unit is low on freon more than likely.

Inside fan motor - evaporator

Yes if you dont hear the evap fan wprking remove rear panel in freezer let me know what you see. Is coil iced over? Is fan running? Is the motor warm? Attempt to spin the blade gently to see if the motor is bound. You can oil these.
