Hi,
I hope i can help resolve your problem for you.
this may be a problem relating to your system device driver files.
Try This:-
go to My Computer/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. at the bottom of the page you will see USB.
If you have any yellow symbols ( exclamation Marks ) then the driver has been corrupted, or installed incorrectly.
if you have a system restore disk. this may solve the problem for you. or recovery cd.

Go into device manager and Un-install them and let the computer Re-install them.

SOURCE: I have and Acer Aspire 3100 And im running a VISTA

Go into the Control Panel, System, Device Manager.

Right-click the usb ports and choose uninstall.

Reboot the computer.

That should do it.
