Tip & How-To about Motorola Mobility Droid (2 GB) Cell Phone

How to get 7 screens on Motorola Droid.

You'll want to get the application called "Helix Launcher" from the Apps Market. Once you have that, go into the menu button ( noted by four horizontal slashes) on your Droid (sitting between the back button and the home button) and go into 'configure". You'll then see a list of options for the Helix. You want to do the first one at the top. Keep in mind you can have 1-7 windows but if you have your Droid set up with the apps of your choice, they will be taken off the home screen if you increase or decrease the amount of windows you have.

Set to the quantity you want and there you go.

How do i get my blu 5.5 to stop saying application error it wont let me do anything

This usually happens when moving apps to the SD Card with the stock Launcher (i.e., through the "Manage Aapplications" menu).

1. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the SD card.
3. Reset it to factory.
4. Install Launcher Pro & Launcher Switcher.
5. Reinstall the apps that you had.
6. Use Launcher Pro as your main launcher

Hi,

I'm Ben and -- hopefully -- I can provide some meaningful assistance.

How do you install apps on Android?

The following applies to any app that you might want to install on your Android tablet.

There are a few ways to go about this. The easiest is, of course, the Android Market itself. But it's quickly finding competition in the likes of the Amazon Appstore. And there are smaller third-party app stores as well, though they haven't necessarily caught on as much as you'd think.

The Android Market

The Android Market is the easiest way to install new Android apps. It should already be installed on your phone or tablet. If it's not, chances are you have one of those (really) cheap Android tablets, and it didn't meet Google's approval. That doesn't mean you can't install new apps, though, and we'll talk more about that in a minute.

Android Market To use the Android Market, you'll need to be signed in with a Google account. Chances are you did this when you first set up the phone. But if not, you can add a Google account to your phone (and even sign up for one at the same time) straight from your phone. Go to Settings>accounts to do so.

Once you're logged in, you'll be able to browser the Android Market, purchase apps, or download free apps. The Android Market also is where you'll update apps you've already loaded. Purchasing apps is done a couple of ways.
  1. One is through Google checkout. You give it a credit card number, and it manages the transactions for you.
  2. Another way is through carrier billing. If you're on Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile you can charge apps to your phone bill.

There are also a couple ways to browse the Android Market. You'll mostly likely do it from your phone. But if you're at a computer, you can browser, purchase and install apps from the Android Market web portal. It's at www.market.android.com.

Fun fact about the Android Market: Once you've purchased an application, you can download it onto as many phones as you have. Need more space on your phone? Uninstall an app and put it back on later if you need it again, at no additional charge.
To install from the Android Market on your phone

Android Market
  • Choose an app.
  • To install, tap "Free" (If it's a paid app, you'll tap "Purchase"
  • You'll be asked to accept permissions -- this shows you what the app can access on your phone. Hit yes, and the app will download and install.

Note: You can cancel a download as it's happening. For paid apps, you can request a refund within 15 minutes.
To install apps from the Android Market

Android Market
  1. Go to market.android.com from a web browser.
  2. Pick an app. Hit the install button.
  3. You'll be asked to accept permissions, and choose which device you want to install on (if you have more than one).
  4. Look over the permissions and hit the install button again. The app will magically be downloaded and installed on your phone.

The Amazon Appstore

A relative newcomer is the Amazon Appstore. It's similar to the Android Market in that you'll have to have an account with Amazon to use it. Unlike the Android Market, the Amazon Appstore likely didn't come pre-installed on your phone, so you'll need to download it.

Once it's on your phone, you can download apps directly from it or, like the Android Market, from a web portal. App downloaded through the Amazon Appstore will be updated through the Amazon Appstore and not through the Android Market.

The following tutorial video will take you through the entire process better than my written words.

I want to set a theme for my lg optimus and I dont know how to can you please help me

The easiest way to change the theme or look of the LG Optimus (or any Android phone for that matter) is to download a new launcher. The Launcher is like the desktop for Android, where you can place widgets and app icons. There are different Launcher's available to download from the Android Market, and some of them can be themed and dramatically change the look of your phone. There are multiple good ones that can be themed. Just go to the Android Market, search for ADW, OpenHome, GO Launcher EX, just to name a few that can be themed.
Once you install the new Launcher, when you hit "home" it will bring up options to choose which Launcher you want to use. Don't select "use as default" until you're sure you want to settle with one of them. (*if you do select use as default, and then want to change again, see the note at the end of this)
If you go back to the Android market, and search for ADW themes, OpenHome themes, etc., you should see quite a long list of various themes for each launcher. Install one you want to try, then hit home. You'll need to apply the theme in the Launcher's settings, which is normally accessed by (from the home screen) hitting the menu button, and then "preferences" or "adw settings" (if you're using ADW). From there, depending on the Launcher you're using, find the section that has to do with "Themes" or "UI". From there, you should be able to select and apply the theme you just downloaded and installed. It can't hurt to download a few if you want to test a few.
Changing Launchers is a great way to change the look and feel of you're phone, as a lot of them run much smoother than the Launcher that comes default on the phone.
*If you set a Launcher as default, but want to change it... the easiest option is to download "Home Switcher for Froyo" from the Android Market, and use that to change between Launchers. The longer was is to go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications, find the Launcher you're using, click on it, and select "clear defaults". Then when you hit the "home" button, it should bring up your options again.
