Tip & How-To about Canonical Ltd. Ubuntu

Ubuntu 10.04 networking stopped after running updates

I had problems with Ubuntu 10.04 after running updates, After a lot of playing about and hunting around on the net I found the best way of fixing this is as follows:

click on applications, a accessories, then select terminal

now type sudo apt-get remove network-manager

now type
sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

you will now be able to edit the file

add the following 4 lines

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

now save the file and reboot your system.
You will now find your wireless and lan works

Download the free edition of EasyBCD (it's boot-up software) and install it in 'C' -Windows. Run EasyBCD... it's very straightforward. It will identify the operating systems on your computer ... choose 'use EasyBCD boot loader' (or similar) and save the changes.

It sounds as though you have somehow lost the boot loader for Ubuntu (it's in C - Windows) when there was an update, which is quite common ..

Using EasyBCD will return your computer to dual-boot

UbuntuForums.org Is the best.

I have run linux on several different hardware and found that HP & IBM are by far the best.
