Changing Channels on your Routers

You may try to use different channels on the router to get a better signal. Follow the steps below how to change channels on your router:


1. Connect your computer to the router via an Ethernet cable and open your web browser (normally Internet Explorer, which can be found on your desktop or on the Start Menu in Windows XP).
2. Once your browser opens, input http://192.168.1.1 into the "Address bar".
3. You'll be prompted for a User Name and Password. Leave the User Name blank and type in admin as the password.


Cisco Interface (if the setup page has a Cisco Logo)
Go to Wireless Tab
SSID: (e.g. Vic or your name or last name)
Channel: Any from 1-11
Then hit Save Settings.


Regular Linksys Interface (if the setup page has no Cisco Logo)
Under Setup:
SSID: (e.g. Vic or your name or last name)
Channel: Any from 1-11
Then hit Apply

After doing this you should have a better Wireless signal from your router....

wireless signal fades in and out...is this router worn out?

If the wireless signal of the router is intermittent what you can do here to correct it is to change some wireless settings on the router like the channel that you can play around to see which channel provides a better signal for you.

Hi i go your issue .......

You can change the channel and the frequency to get a better signal range ......

To promote this please follow the following steps

Step 1: Connected modem>>router>>computer
Step 2: Open Router Setup by typing http://192.168.2.1 on the address bar of internet explorer
Step 3: Towards the left corner click channel and ssid under wireless
Step 4: on the left under wireless click channel and SSID
Step 5 :Change the Wireless channel to 6 and also you can change the frequency there
Step 6 : Change the SSID to a different name ( no Spaces )
Step 7 : Click apply changes
Step 8 : Now Scan and connect to this network ( Wireless )

can't go no more than 20ft from the router with my laptop

What you can do is try changing the router's channel. Follow the steps below:

1. Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1
2. It will ask for username and password. No username and password is admin
3. Click on Wireless tab. Select Standard for Radio Band and select Channel 11 for Standard Channel. Click on Save settings.
4. Check the signal distance now
