Tip & How-To about Heating & Cooling

You can add Air Conditioning to Your Hot Air Furnace

Air Conditioning is easier to add to an existing central hot air heating system then you might think. Both systems use air to move the heating or cooling to the different parts of the house. With the addition of a coil and condenser to your system you can stay nice and cool all summer long.

The easiest way to add in cooling to a system is to install a coil on top of the furnace supply air plenum. This can be accomplished by cutting open the supply duct just on top of the furnace and sliding the air conditioning coil right in on the top of the furnace. The only limitation usually is the height of the plenum. If there is not enough height there, then the coil may need to be installed on a horizontal run.

If the horizontal run option is needed then you will have to make sure that all of the air flow goes through the run. If all of the air does not go through that run, then the ones that do not go through will not cool nearly as effectively as the rest of the runs that go through the coil.

After placing the coil in the ductwork, the piping and electric will need to be run to the outdoor condenser unit. After wiring and piping the unit the refrigeration lines will need to be purged, and vacuumed. This will clean the lines and take the air out of them. Any air in the system will cause the system not to work properly.

When all of this work is done you will be ready to have great cooling. The whole process usually takes me less than a day to complete. Adding cooling to an existing system is a simple operation when it is done by someone that has done it many times. If you have a hot air central heating system without the benefit of cooling, then you should check into adding the cooling feature to your system. You will be glad you did when the hot weather rolls back around again.

Olds bravada only blows hot air

Is yours manual or Automatic HVAC system ? heating ventilation air conditioning . When is the last time you tried it ? did it work then , last year ? Where do you live south , north ? Have you had any refrigerant added lately ?
The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system is divided into three separate sections. The first, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, has all procedures that pertain to a HVAC component or function that is not specifically associated with the manual control system. The second, HVAC Systems-Manual, has all procedures specific to the manual control system.
Begin the system diagnosis with the:
?€¢
Symptoms - HVAC Systems - Manual in HVAC Systems-Manual for 4.3 L without DTCs

?€¢
Diagnostic System Check - HVAC Systems - Manual in HVAC Systems-Manual for 2.2 L with DTCs

?€¢
Diagnostic System Check - HVAC Systems - Automatic in HVAC Systems-Automatic for 4.3 L with DTCs

The Diagnostic System Check will provide the identification of the control module(s) which command the system.
The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Review the Description and Operation information to help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the Description and Operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation.

How a Central Air Conditioning System Works
amn_howac.jpg

Facts:
  • The typical central air conditioning system is a split system, with an outdoor air conditioning, or "compressor bearing unit" and an indoor coil, which is usually installed on top of the furnace in the home.
  • Using electricity as its power source, the compressor pumps refrigerant through the system to gather heat and moisture from indoors and remove it from the home.
  • Heat and moisture are removed from the home when warm air from inside the home is blown over the cooled indoor coil. The heat in the air transfers to the coil, thereby "cooling" the air.
  • The heat that has transferred to the coil is then "pumped" to the exterior of the home, while the cooled air is pumped back inside, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
  • Central air conditioning can also be provided through a package unit or a heat pump.

Benefits:
  • Indoor comfort during warm weather - Central air conditioning helps keep your home cool and reduces humidity levels.
  • Cleaner air - As your central air conditioning system draws air out of various rooms in the house through return air ducts, the air is pulled through an air filter, which removes airborne particles such as dust and lint. Sophisticated filters may remove microscopic pollutants, as well. The filtered air is then routed to air supply ductwork that carries it back to rooms.
  • Quieter operation - Because the compressor bearing unit is located outside the home, the indoor noise level from its operation is much lower than that of a free-standing air conditioning unit.

My A/C blowing air, but it is not cool. It has started freezing up. We just replaced the air filters and since then it is freezing up. We even gently cleaned the a/c coils before replacing the filters. Is there something else we can clean before we call a repairman? We have an Intertherm Central Air Unit.

Hello, sounds like it is either a low charge or lack of airflow, what type of filter are you using? sometimes those filters that claim to be super effecient will actually cut down on your airflow and cause the ac to freeze up.

we need a new heater thinking of replacing it with a heater air conditioning unit what is a fair price to pay

To vague.Depends on application, i.e. forced air(add on with heating existing), geo thermal, heat pump, etc...Not to mention size of system(tonnage), brand, seer, existing modifications to delling.Commercial or Residential, zoning, local/state ordinences/codes.Title 24.Cash or finance options.

Really in short, a dumb question.Sorry for the straight talk.
