Tip & How-To about Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED Film Scanner

Fix that Jamming Slide in your Nikon CoolScan 5000ED / SF-210 Slide Feeder

I balked when someone whispered this tip to me; the thought of putting foreign objects into my Nikon CoolScan 5000ED slide scanner with its SF-210 slide feeder seemed asking for trouble.

After about a thousand slides worth of experience, and many batches that seemed to jam every other slide, I gave it a try and boy did it do the trick.

The SF-210 slide feeder works flawlessly with newer, thicker, plastic slide mounts, but if you are archiving and digitizing older, cardboard slides like I am then here's what wasn't printed in the CoolScan user's manual:

Take a AAA battery and place it in rear, left side of the slide feeding tray as pictured below.

The slides will fan out nicely, and your Nikon CoolScan will no longer try to load more than one at a time. Instead it will load them one at a time, 50 per tray, and you can actually walk away from it and let it do its job, just the way you intended to when you bought the SF-210 slide feeder attachment!

I hope that helps.
