Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to add a category to a fixya tip when categories don't load

I found fixya categories wouldn't load on either my iPad or on Safari on my Mac which prevented me from posting a tip. To solve this once you are logged in to the website:

  • Go to Browse Categories at the top, then click on the category you would like to use so that you go into the category to view items
  • Go back to posting a new tip (eg click the fixya logo at the top, then click on the add a tip button)
You will see that the category you selected when browsing is the default for the tip, so you can create and then post the tip.

How do you post a tip?

Hi Jon,

The categories should appear in a dropdown as you begin typing. There are many categories, which is why they are not all listed at once. Start typing and you should see a dropdown appear.

Also note that when posting a tip it may be a short time before the tip will show since tips must be reviewed.

I only get the slow script error on one specific website...Is it my problem or the websites problem.

Hello,
This is a protection method used to prevent badly coded scripts or overly large scripts from tying up your MAC. If its just the one website that this happens on, I wouldn't worry about it. Safari is a bit more picky with slow scripts then other browsers. Try downloading firefox internet browser and load the problem webpage on that.

I'm going to need more information to solve this problem. Are you using an iPhone, Mac, Macbook, PC, iPad? Are you connected to the internet? Have you downloaded the latest version of Safari? Have you checked your settings on your device?
Please include more information on your question and I'll be happy to help
