Tip & How-To about Canon PIXMA Office Equipment & Supplies

Printing issues double chars or vertical cuts

I had apply this tip to my printer but it can be applied to any jet printer.

If the printing results are similar to the ones on the photos

Maybe your encoder/timing belt is with some dirt. This can happen mainly after a paper jam removal.

You need to clean the strip :

To do so use a cotton bud embeded with isopropyl alchool or similar and clean the front and the back.
The use some dry fabric (soft) or soft tissue to do the final clean up.
Finnaly use the clean functions of the priter to filnalize the cleanning.

That should fix your issue.

I suspect this will be a tricky one! I am printing from a new iMac / CS5 setup. I am using OCP inks and Ilford paper. I am printing the same images to both machines. The print settings are identical. The R1800 gives acceptable colours...the R800 prints are really dark and obviously over inked, with a distinct magenta / violet cast. Absolutely terrible. I also have a QTR driver installed for B+W. Using this, prints are very similar from either machine. I also have the Marrutt purge print-outs for the R800...when using this, the two printers give similar images....colours are as expected (that is, similar to the monitor). I cannot see this as a profiling problem...the media type / profile settings are identical. If I were using Epson paper / ink my expectations would be that the prints were identical (or very very close). Using OCP ink with Ilford paper on my old 2200 printer gave very similar results to Epson ink with Epson paper. Finally, the OCP inks are from the same batch...paper from the same box! One last point...the print drivers are the latest from the Epson site...although the R800 one seems less up to date. However, the R800 is still a current printer available new.....so that shouldn't be a problem. Suggestions????

hi Anthony, i spent a month trying to figure out a similar problem with an epson 2200. Now, the printers are different but not that much, and, the changes in paper and ink gave me "some" color issues but not as bad as what i was getting. your problem seems very similar. i run a PC so this is similar but not exactly the same. what i found was that a Magenta/ violet cast was due to double profiling. I could verify that i had the correct settings but i was wrong! I print from CS3 into the epson 2200. What i found was there is an error(no one is talking about) in the printer driver. You cannot shut off the color management completely! Assume this scenario, you are printing with CS3 applying your profile in CS3. Make the settings in CS3 as normal, then you are directed to the printer settings. Go to the print driver and make the selections for ICM Color, and select "no color". The KEY is to make sure you do this step LAST , make sure to click on the "apply" button, then "Close". Once you make the selection of "No Color" do NOT click on anything else. If you change screens in the print driver once you select "no color mgmt" the driver CHANGES your settings. ANY settings in the other pages in the print driver cause the driver to apply a printer profile, this effectively "double profiles" your photo print causing the magenta cast. None of this should happen if the driver was created correctly but there it is! It took a long time to test and verify but it is as i stated. Once i got it sorted out my photos are excellent ALL the time. Good luck, worm1855.

Clean print head with dry cue tips.
Apply strong suction over black print
jets on print head.
Replace print head and cartridges.

my wonderful HP 2575 cannot print good quality photos anymore

Had similar problem with my HP printer. Used cotton swab, soaked in rubbing alcohol, on all the rubber rollers. My printer has a removable back panel that gives better access to the rollers. May have to apply the alcohol several times to remove buildup and to help restore roller "grip".
