Tip & How-To about Toshiba Satellite P105-S6227 Notebook

How to reset BIOS password on a laptop.

On a Laptop often you have to disassemble the computer to remove the battery or jump the CMOS reset.
On some laptop, like many Dells, and thinkpads the battery can be accessed from one of the slots at the bottom, and it is located deep at one side of the slot.
More commonly battery is located on lower side of the motherboard, and to access it you will have to remove the motherboard.
Better getting schematics before disassembling the laptop.

Do not disassemble the laptop unless you have done this operation several times before, and you have practice.

Before disassemblying remove battery and unplug the AC adapter.
Do not short any pins unless you are sure that you are jumping the CMOS reset pins, even without main laptop battery you can still damage components touching here and there.

The best way to erase CMOS is removing the laptop battery for one minute, thn pputting it back.

This will reset CMOS to factory and erase BIOS settings.

To reset bios password on laptop, you must remove CMOS battery, not the regular one.

CMOS battery is ussualy located "under the hood" on the motherboard, so you must disassemble notebook.

Here is how CMOS battery look.

Hi,

To unlock the bios password on your laptop, you will need to remove the cmos battery on your laptop for some minutes and insert back, the cmos battery is located on the motherboard of your laptop, once the cmos battery is removed from the motherboard for some minutes, the bios password will be reset, and that fix the problem.

Take care.

forgot bios password for ibm thinkpad 2647 win98

To reset the laptop you need to remove the CMOS battery for ten seconds or so.

On Thinkpads the battery is hidden on one side after you remove the bottom doors, usually inside the RAM slot.

Here is how it looks like:

Althought the operation is not complicate, it requires disassembly part of the unit, and should still be done by a technician.

Laptop main battery pack must be removed before opening the door at the bottom, and internal components and boards must not be touched with bare fingers.
