Tip & How-To about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

View media from your computer to your PS3

What you need:
Windows (XP-7)
A recent router system
Internet cords
PS3(obviously)
Television
Surround Sound system (optional)

Make sure all your connections are in. You can do this wireless, but the picture will be choppy. If your router is 2 feet away from the PS3 then no problem.
Go into your PS3 settings and enable ATRAC, WMA playback and Media Server connection. Leave the PS3 on.
Go to your computer and go here to download PS3 Media Server.
Once installed, go into Navigation/Share Settings. The default is "all", but if you want to only specify certain folders, click on the "+".

A matter of CPU. If you only have one, only playback files if they are 7-900Mb, anything more and your CPU will be struggling to send the data.
2+ cores and you can playback files as large as 4Gb-20Gb.

The PS3 is compatible with a wide range of files like MKV, AVI, M2TS and WMA.

You can even enjoy your music and edit photos. Turning your gaming system into a media entertainment centre.

I can only speak for WinXP Service Pack 3 and Windows 7 build 7100. For me the program worked flawlessly. Handling full 5.1 Digital surround sound.
The settings were fine on the Media Server, not having to change a thing.
I haven't experienced any trouble with the software and I have been using it for 4 months now.

I have an Dell Dimension E510 running windows XP. I have 5.1 surround sound speakers that were working fine until recently. Only 2 speakers work; left and right. None of the others have sound. I have SigmaTel Audio.

Reinstall the software for the sound system, this should redetect the speakers properly as 5.1 surround sound speakers.

If you do this and it still doesn't work then the speakers are bad and your sound system would need to be replaced.

how do i get my ps3 to run through my lg surround sound

Connect your yellow and red lead from the PS3 to the surround system, connect them to aux input. (the white lead is not needed). Then in the sound settings on the PS3, go to audio multi-output and change it to on. On your remote for the sound system press the input button until aux appears on the front of your LG HT303SU, and thats it, happy gaming.

surround sound for ps3 with a hdmi cable..

you need a HDMI connection for your stereo. HDMI is an all in one cable so if you don't get your sound in/out you need to hook up to just the RCA's, if you get a reciver that has an HDMI input you will solve this. then you go HDMI to Reciver then HDMI to TV

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.

I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.

Cheers

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

Connect the PS3 to your TV with the hdmi cable and to the surround sound system with a digital optical cable, then set your PS3 to output sound through the optical port (through the sound options menu) and you're good to go!
