Tip & How-To about Sony MDS-JE480 Mini Disc Player

Mini Disc Lense Cleaning

I was ion touch with the Sony tech dept. If you get a C13 error it's because of dust on the lense. I didn't have any compressed air in a can so I used a soccer ball hand pump and pumped a ton of air just inside the door of the unit. 2 seconds later it worked fine. No cleaner needed.

read error

The deck cannot read what is on the disc - probable causes are dirty head in deck, dirty disc, worn out head on an old unit. I'd check the disc looking for dust or scratches from a crash with the head, if messed up try another one. Try dusting off the head with a blast of compressed air or a q tip but be very careful they are delicate.

It may be the deck is worn out, many of these decks are very old...

sony minidisc MDS-JE530 c13 rec error

This could be a solution for your problem, if you get a C13 error it's because of dust on the lens causing TOC read errors. Try blowing out dust using clean compressed air (the kind in the can used for computer maintenance).

Disk error C13:01

Any C13 error is a media error. First try formatting a blank disk in that camera itself. If that doesnt work, try blowing out the disk slot with compressed air. I wouldnt use canned air like you can get at office supply places because if the can is tilted some of the propellant can come out and gunk up the inside of your gear. If dry compressed air doesnt work, have it serviced by an authorized Sony repair shop.
