Tip & How-To about Jenn-Air Cooktops

PROBLEMS WITH GAS COOKTOP AUTO-IGNITER.

I had a problem with a new install of a gas cooktop. The auto-igniter would keep on clicking and wouldn't stop. After examining the wiring diagram, I saw that the igniter was looking for a ground potential to tell it to turn off. Checked the wall outlet and found the outlet had been wired incorrectly. Reversed the wiring AND ran a separate ground wire back to the breaker panel. Problem solved.

gas cooktop never stop clicking 4 of them just keep starting without stop. I opened it and checked the wire, no problem.

Hi mikegou100,

I believe your ignition switches have come in to contact with either water or moisture.

Please read my below Tip on how to fix the problem:

GAS KITCHEN APPLIANCE CLICKING SOUND...

If it does not solve your problem, I'd suggest replacing the ignition switches.

Kind Regards

When lighting any burner...the igniter continues after lighting."click, click, click, click, click" and so fourth. Thank you for your time.

My parts list doesn't tell me if that is an auto relight unit or not. But since you say it happens on any burner I'll leave out stuck ignitor switch for now.
Check the house ground wire to the unit and check that the burner caps are installed properly. The auto units read a ground when they ignite so if the burner caps are on wrong or dirty they can cause this.

Whirlpool Cooktop igniters keep firing, even after igniting

when you cleaned the unit you may have gotten water in side the igniter, dry it out w/ a hair dryer. Once dry should work .

wolf range cooktop

I just installed a Wolf gas cooktop and had the same problem in that all 4 burners would light just fine but the electronic igniters would not stop clicking on all four. What I found was that the electrical outlet that my gas cooktop was plugged into had the polarity reversed. I tested the outlet with a polarity testing module (you can get one at Home Depot and it checks polarity, grounding, GFI and is handy to have around, small and inexpensive). I plugged it in and the lights told me that the polarity was reversed. I reversed the wires in the outlet (exchanged the white and black wires) put the cover back on, plugged in the cook top and now it works like a champ! no more constant clicking. By the way, we had a cooktop before this one with electronic ignition and never had a problem, apparently it didn't care about the polarity.
