Wiring diagram, parts list (and a link to website that sells them, or eBay) and DIY personality is needed. :-)

The short answer is no. Unless you want to burn the motor and control circuit. I had a lot of problems with Thomas going slow, not having enough power, like battery is dead, until I figured out that there is too much voltage drop on the "dead-man" press-down switch. See my other post how to replace it with home wall mount flip switch from Home Depot. Other place to look is under the seat and make sure that motor contacts are clean, no corrosion and that they are not loose. I soldered them in place. another spot is the battery connector to check that it is not warned out. If you want higher voltage and higher speed, you can go to any hobby store, or online, and by some of the airplane or care NIMH battery packs, like 3300mAh, 7.2V (they are made of 2/3-C cells, JFYI). I use two 3000mAh, 7.2V, in parallel, just because I got them cheap (usually they are $10-$20 specially when they have sales). BTW, the original led-acid gel battery is about 6000mAh-when brand new. You will probably need to change connector on the train (I switched to "T" also known as "Deans". If you know how to solder, or ask in the shop, some will do it for you if u bring ur train in. You can by a cheap charger in the hobby store, or use any 9-15V wall brick and use resistor to set current to around 1/10 of the battery capacity (200-300mA) for 12h charging time. You can also choose 2-cell Lithium polymer battery (6v-8.4V empty/full) , they are more expensive, but light and bigger capacity in the same space. Thsi is excellent option if you already have them fo your hobby. Important: If you choose LIPO, you will need a charger designed for LIPOs or you will cause fire. If you never dealt with them, just stay away from them.

You can't really find original "dead man switch". What I did, I went to Home Depot and purchased wall flip switch. It is about 1/4 in longer. I have removed original switch, that was anyway to strong for kids to hold pressed, cut top of the handle to accommodate longer flip-switch, connected the wires to it (might need to extend a wire if you can't pull wire out) and used packing tape (clear) to hold it in place. Tape is holding for two years now, no problem. It will be a little easier to do all this if you remove the cabin top side. This is harder then it looks, until you figure out there are plastic stops that need to be slightly bent/moved aside, to allow you to move snap tap and pool it away to lift the top. See the pictures, I fixed two Tomas' like this (two kids who can't share toys :-) )

the sound runs from a different battery source, you'll need to remove the screw on the fron t of the seat and then lift the seat up and charge the battery with the supplied charger

you'll have to pull the rear wheels off then pull the motor off of the axle

first of all check for at least 12 volts from the battery and the charger, you can test this using a multimeter, if the battery doesn't show any volts, lift up one side of the blue plastic housing on the top and verify that both the positive and negative wires are plugged in

A few things can cause this: The battery is weak/bad. The connector at the battery might be worn out and have intermittent contact. Those are fairly easy things to check. Next, the GO button might be worn out internally (high resistance contacts)-believe it or not, the whole motor current goes through that switch. You would need to remove top of the roof to access the button. Or, open the speaker cover, pull out the control board and bypass Go switch wires to check for train proper operation. As you are already there, inspect the control/sound board. The last thing that comes to my mind is the motor itself, it is under the seat. Check contacts to motor, plus you can spray contact cleaner or, if you don't have anything else, alcohol. Avoid using WD40 - it does the job, but collects new dirt very very fast). There is always a chance of pinched/loose wire, or mechanical problem with gear assembly/jamming or so.

Here are a few things to check - Is your battery charger plugged into a known working outlet? Is the charger plugged into a switch controlled outlet? Is it ON? Have you checked the output voltage of the charger with a volt meter? The in and out voltage should be molded into the charger housing. Is there any internal damage? Are you sure the battery is connected to the wires inside? Is the motor connected through the controller? Is there a fuse - have you checked it? Is the ON/OFF switch in the on position and is it actually ON? Check with a Volt/Ohm meter to be sure. How old is the battery? Can you check its voltage? Expect 1 to 2 years use only. If you get more, well you got more ... good. If it is older, that may be the problem. Volt Ohm meters available for around $10.00 at hardware and electronics stores. Hello Cindy, We can solve this one in a couple of different ways. If you wish, take the item with the loose screw to your local hardware store where they will have exactly what you need to secure the battery cover. Just ask the manager to assist you as they are all trained in the uses of all of the hardware they sell.
