Instructions. for HB51R timer

Check out the HB61RC manual from Intermatic, here. I can't find an HB51R manual, but hese devices look very similar and probably operate the same way. I'll see if I find anything more - and will post it if I do. If this works - let me know - thanks & good luck!

Can I use outdoor timer

If outdoor timer is programmable, and does not turn ON automatically at dusk, then timer can be used indoors.
If outdoor timer is activated by photo eye, and turns ON automatically at dusk, then it cannot be used indoors, because the timer turns ON when it senses darkness.

http://www.intermatic.com/products/timers/consumer%20outdoor%20timers/electromechanical%20timers/hb51rc.aspx

HB51 appears to be an automatic timer
Capacity is 1000Watts
Your lights are on so the circuit has power
I don't see any troubleshooting steps
It gives you a choice how many hours your lights stay on after dusk

You might try changing the selector to a different stay-on hour.
Turn timer off and unplug and then re-plug timer to see if it re-sets.

Otherwise, it looks like the photocell or 'timer brain' stopped functioning.

How do I get it

You posted under Intermatic make HB51 timer.

If this is not your timer, then add a comment.

To set for ON at dusk, and off 4 hours later, rotate dial to the number 4.
Timer turns on automatically at dusk because timer has photo eye.
Timer set to 4 hours will start countdown when timer turns ON > and 4 hours later timer will turn off.

Make sure timer is turned away from lights so photo-eye doesn't receive feedback.
Feedback is when the photo eye gets too much light, and then timer thinks it's dawn, so lights turn off, and a moment later photo eye thinks it's dusk again and lights turn on.
Feedback from lights will cause timer to reset the 4 hour countdown.
A car pulling in driveway can cause feedback.
If timer resets because of feedback, it begins 4 hour countdown again, so lights will not turn off until much later than planned, or not turn off until dusk.

You can test timer by putting black tape over photo eye, and then timer will turn on.
Set timer for 2 hours for example and then check if timer turned off 2 hours later.

If timer is not functioning correctly, then timer is defective.

My intermatic time HB51R flashes on and off when

I think the timer's photoelectric eye is getting too much light from the Load it turns on.
To check this, set timer at 2 hours, and then put black tape over the photoelectric eye so timer senses that it is dark and turns ON.
If timer does not blink with black tape, then problem is too much light with will cause on-off cycling of the timer.
If timer blinks with black tape over the eye, then timer is suspect. Exchange timer for another one.

Lights continue to go off

Maybe the lights are causing photoelectric eye to sense that it's no longer dark.
This is called feedback.
To check this, set timer for 2 hours.
Put black tape over photoeye.
Check if timer turns on-and-off.

If timer continues to blink, then timer is suspect. Return it for another one.
If feedback is causing the problem, then turn timer away from lights or place obstruction between timer and lights.

Will the HB51R have to

The dawn to dusk feature is activated by photoelectric eye that senses when it gets dark.
If you put timer in a dark room, it will turn ON ... let's say to operate Christmas tree after you leave a room for the evening.
But if room stays dark, the timer will not sense when to turn off unless you also set timer to turn off 1-9 hours after ON.
That being said, a Christmas tree might make too much light for the timer's photoelectric eye.
Make sure photoelectric eye is turned away from direct light.

How do I set it

I see nothing in the manual that says 'outdoor use only' EXCEPT timer runs on photoelectric eye.
Timer turns ON automatically at dusk, so if timer is inside, and indoor lights are ON, then timer stays OFF.

I have an intermatic HB51R.

I don't think it is supposed to be in the "on" position when setting it up.
Turn dial to "off".
Then plug timer into grounded outlet.
Turn dial to 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours to run after dusk.
Plug in your outdoor lights.
Wait until dusk.
Let us know if this works.

Intermatic 1725 Timer. It runs a 220v pump in SIM mode. I would like to time some 120v lights, can I do this in IND mode and have 120 and 230 volt circuits?

Reading the broad description I would have said "yes if you can identify the input and output of each separate circuit. However the description says
  • Selector switch to determine input voltage between 120-277 VAC
So you have to select the voltage on it. It appears there are also various model differences to the 1725 series designated by a letter at the end after the '5'.
