Where do I place the jumper to set a maxtor model 31024H1 to run as slave?
Support can be found at Seagate.com in case this is not the exact drive. The model number you listed was not an exact match.

I have data on a Maxtor hard drive, Model 87000D8 that I need to retrieve, I want to slave it in and then I can recover the data.
I need to know the jumper settings for this hard drive.

I have the same situation as described by Pld8457. The Maxtor drive is Model 90845D4. Manufacturing P/N D8197-60101, Replacement: D8197-63001 and Exchange D8197-69001. (this is from the hard drive label)
Jumper J48 and "cable select" on.
Here's the chart that lists the jumper settings for all of the various models of Maxtor hard drives:

The first drive above is a DiamondMax 1750, and
the 2nd is a DiamondMax 4320

I have miss placed my power pack for my Maxtor 500GB external hard drive
500GB PN 9NZ2A4-500
Is te power supply 12 volts dc and what is the polarity
Are manuals available for this hard drive

The PSU for my Maxtor 500Gb 9NZ2A4-500 drive is 12V DC, 2A rating, 2.1mm "plug" with centre "hole" as positive.

5T020h2 jumper setup
No jumper is used on the J50 pins, when using the Maxtor 5T020H2 IDE harddrive, as a Slave harddrive.
In otherwords do not use a jumper on any of the jumper pins.

I have never personally seen one but most drives are the same for the type of jumpers installed. See if this helps you:
