I have the maxtor hard drive, and i want to save

The only way you can access that Hard dive on a different computer is to make it a slave.
Look at the jumpers on the rear and set it to either SL or CS (cable select)
I may have misunderstood your question because first you are saying a hard drive ( like an internal Hard drive) then you are saying external hard drive ????

Beeping an not working

How old it is? Have u tried unplugging the cables from the hdd and putting them back? If not then please try that first. If it keeps on doing the same then most likely u will have to replace it. My recommendation will be Western Digital Hard-Drives.

Hello! my device is a

If it just been formatted and still works and in case you didn't wrote on it anything since the format,the only thing you can do it try to recover the files from the drive, you probably can forget about the OS. There are 2 good apps out there:
  • Recuva - A freeware app, does the job fairly.
  • File Scavenger - For 50$, if you really need those files.
Good luck...

What is the jumper pin

The manual is linked below and section 3.3.1 covers jumper settings.
The slave setting shows the park position so you have a jumper on the drive so you can reconfigure it later.

A quick answer is that the slave setting is no jumper at all on the jumper pins.

My Maxtor "black Armor" 160

Beeping is a certain sign of hard disk failure.
You have no other option but to replace the drive.

Consider price rather than capacity, a larger drive may well be currently cheaper.

How the jumper setting is

If this is an IDE/PATA hard drive then the jumper settings are marked on the circuit board.
MA = master
SL = slave
CS = cable select
If this hard drive is the one installed on the Primary IDE controller the the jumper has to be set to Master. If it won't boot up then the jumper needs to be set to Cable select.

If this hard drive is a second hard drive and is connected to the 2nd connector on the IDE data cable that is connected to the primary IDE controller then the jumper must be set to Slave.

If this hard drive is a second hard drive and is connected to the secondary IDE controller and there is no other drive on the IDE data cable other than this hard disk the the jumper can be set to either Master or Slave.
If there is a CD drive on this cable too then the drives on this data cable then the jumpers on each drive must be set differently, they cannot be set the same jumper setting.

When I run the maxtor

Run the Hard drive using one cable with duel main and slave capability and the CDROM drive give it its own cable ising the second IDE cable as the master for the CDROM drive. Isolate them. Making sure one is master and set to accept a slave drive using one cable for both hard drives and one for the CDROM drive. Try that and see if this assisted you. Do not forget to vote John

Read the printed label gummed onto the top of the disk-drive, for the possible settings:
* MA(ster)

Try the 'CS' position for the jumper, and connect the drive.

How to remove bad sectore of hard

Hi,

Let's try to explain the question that grinds us all when in cams about the hard disk. Can we actually repair a bad block? Before of the answer you must find some information about what is a hard disk, how does it work, what are bad blocks. After that you must identify them because you will need the exact location of the affected sectors. After you have done that you must run a few steps:
- before you try to resolve the problem with the bad sector you must extract the data that was written to that block. To do this you must run a Recovery program that you can find freeware on the net.
- bad sectors are unreadable parts on your hard disk but the nature of them must not be always physically and that part of the platens to be destroyed. The bad sectors can be simulated by some programs. This means that some programs installed on your computer can interrupt the reading process on to another segment of the platens. That is in the most happier cases but the chances that the bad sectors are cause by this is less then 10 percent. In this case is difficult to resolve the problem because even the Scandisk or other identification programs used to discover bad blocks will give a rapport that nothing is wrong with your hard disk. The best way is to uninstall the latest programs applied to the computer.
- lets supposed that you have a 20 gigabits partition on your hard disk that has bad blocks. After the identification program it will indicate you where are the blocks situated on the partition. So this way you can isolate them in to another partition that you must never use again. Another scenario can be created and the bad sectors can be at the beginning of the partition in the middle of it and at the end of the partition. Know it's a little bit tricky because you can't just go on and create three new partitions to eliminate the bad sectors from use. In this case most of the new hard disk has a spare space available just for this type of scenarios. You must access the CASH memory of the hard disk and indicates to the hard disk that instead of writing down on the effected blocks it must write to the spare blocks.
- another to restore the hard disk is to use the low level format option. Many of you think that low level format is a program. Wrong, the low level format option is set for any BIOS and can be easily use if you know some command line programming. The low level format can take to be complete a very long period of time but in the most cases we can obtain marvelous results. Actually the low level option takes every cluster of the hard disk and identifies them again (throw a thermal process) and writes down on the memory of the hard disk what sectors can be written and witch blocks are un-writable. This procedure is the best that can be because it will need no effort from your side to try and avoid the bad blocks that already exists and the hard disk itself know where the bad blocks are.
In conclusion the bad blocks can't be fixed. The problem is a permanent one and we can only try to use the hard disk until it is broken down for good. But if you are having financial problem this is a best way to keep going with your old hard disk.

How to recover all the files from failed 40gb ide

It is very uncommon for a had drive to fail with out power surges or some other physical damage so I would suggest making sure all of the cables are connected properly and that the connectors on the back of the hard drive that tell it whether it is slave, cable select, or master are setup correctly, and if the hard drive has failed there really is no way to get information off of it, but my hopes are high that it has not failed. Good luck,

Hello,
Think it has gone try to back up or zero fill,

1. I think there are too many bad sectors in your 'HDD'. The reason you did not use for a long days or electricity problem (horrible breakable power supply).You will always use UPS. To repair the HDD, you should need a bootable DM .I don't know, which hdd you are using. So you will use on-track bootable dm follow the step >

Download from bellow link, for ontrack dm

http://www.downtr.net/297918-ontrack-easyrecovery-professional-621.html

Mazor problem is most of the user, burn ISO file in data mode and the result, it could not run in boot time.
Burn the iso file, under image burning option from any nero .

2. Restart >press F2/F10/Del( for entry in the BIOS)>Set the cd/dvd as 1st priority.

(It will start automatically from cd )If create any problem footing the cd , follow the bellow link for set boot priority.

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/articles/bios/

3. Ensure that your Bootable dm cd, in cd rom.
4. Boot from cd will be appear then hit Enter as quick as possible.

5. All it will be possible, if you know dos other wise it will be difficult.
6. DON'T PANIC,I hope, you will can do it

7. Type that letter where the dm software in the cd.
8. Type in dos mode. e.g. if your two partition c: d : so your dm will be in e:.
9.type e: and enter , for observation type= dir and enter >now you can see is there ontrack or dm (directry or folder) have or not try it once after one
10 If have ontrack in that folder type=cd (space) ontrack>cd (space) dm hit enter .
11 If all ok type dm and enter
12.Enter
13.Advance installation
14.Maintenance
15.Utility
16.Zerrofil
16.Yes
17. It will take 8 to 10 hours don't panic all data will be lost
17. With this processes your hdd can be ok.
