because of the power off on that will have messed up your trans-fare in that it will have corrupted your hard drive if you can still access the drive reformat it then use a recovery software to get the deleted files even when its been formatted it still leaves a fingerprint so the files may still be there

what do you mean by not being able to restart and what operating system do you have? you can format the magic jack itself to reset it. open my computer and look for a drive that says vista or phone, right click and format. Then install any updates. let me know if you need anything else

The external drive has gone belly up. You can try it on another usb port and also on another computer just to satisfy yourself, but the drive has croaked.

OK, I can give you both the proper solution, but i need to know if you are on Macintosh or PC..?

Maxtor has been acquired by SEAGATE, thank god. YOu can find a replacement cable directly from them....or ebay.

It could be that it is mapped to a drive letter that is already in use. Under device manager, (right click my computer and select manage then click on disk management) If you see the device in there then you can right click on the bar graph representation of the disk and select to change drive letter and paths. This will allow you to remove the conflict and have it show up again.

Inorder to reset the BIOS password, you have to open the laptop from the back, locate the CMOS battery, remove it and press down the terminal (with the help of a screw driver) for 5 sec, now turn ON the computer (keepon holding the terminal) short the BIOS. Now, Turn off the computer and restart the computer, it will reset the BIOS password.

do you have a recovery disk for the internal hard drive? this is the disk that came with pc.your internal HD is important this have been wiped (you have no OS) . get your internal back in order........do you have a receipt that says you purchased a 300gb (not 3gb) take it back get your money or the right external... once you are able to use the pc double check the external hard drive

Have you tried restarting your Mac (with the Drive still connected)?

Otherwise try:

1. Disconnect the USB cable from your Mac.
2. Restart your Mac.
3. Reconnect the USB cable to a different USB port on your Mac (like the keyboard USB port for example).

Use the menu on the Magicjack screen.....there is an option to restart under "Advanced Users".

Have you tried right clicking on the drive and going into properties. Click on security option and make sure that all the permissions for the drive are active with the exception of special permissions. Also look at the advanced security settings and make sure that you have full control permissions. Hope this helps.
