Easy to find information for Briggs. Look for the engine model number on the fan cover or block. The link below will answer all your questions about the engine.

Will not generate electricity

First verify that the breaker for the outlets is not tripped and make sure that the generator is running at full operating speed. let it run for 5-10 minutes and check for output power. If there is nothing, there are two possible problems. One could be that the automatic voltage regulator is bad. The other is that the field needs to be flashed - a high possibility if the generator has not been run in a long time. There are many videos on the internet that show you how to solve both of these problems. Just do a search for No output from a portable power generator.

On a Generac model 1646-2 generator is the oil level switch normal open with full oil level.

I don\'t know, but change the switch or bypass it. They give plenty of problems & motor would start sometimes & not others.....Check the oil & rely on old style tech. I bypassed the switch on both of mine.after they gave problems & wouldn\'t run when needed....I only got a second one when I needed power & the switch was the only thing wrong ( I found this out too late.) & ended up with 2....

There is not enough amperage in the generator to jump start a car. You risk damaging the generator. NOT recommended

How do i disconnect the low oil sensor

Some oil sensors will stop the generator from running if unplugged, IE they close the circuit on oil pressure, some close the circuit on oil pressure. I wouldn't recommend but with it running just take the single wire off the sensor, if it stops immediately then it requires the signal grounded to run. Some ground on low oil.

My coleman started running at a super high rpm. I know it's the governor, but how do I adjust?

It sounds like the governor arms internally are broken, can you feel any resistnce? if not then it will need a tear down to fix

No ac output pulled cover

Hi, you might get some good results by flashing the generator. The drill method works really well. Here is the link on how to do it. http://www.perr.com/tip16.htmlHere is another method http://www.endtimesreport.com/dead_gen.html .You might luck out with this, it has helped a lot of people that have covered everything, with no results. Good luck, Michael Burke.

How to start the generator

Hi Joe, I had asked for a little clarification and have not received any information. I will answer this question based on the generator is in good working order and it is a recoil start. Open the petcock, (this is the fuel valve) and give it about a minute to fill the fuel bowl on the carburetor. If your generator has an engine an on/off kill switch, set to on. If the generator has an auto idle switch set it to off. If the engine has a throttle lever located under the carburetor, push it all the way down (full throttle). Pull the choke knob out completely, there is a detent on the choke for half choke, pull it past this for full choke. pull the recoil starter rapidly. As soon as the engine starts running push the choke knob to half choke, this will allow the engine to run smooth while it's warming up. Depending on the climate that you are in, warm up time will vary. After a minute or two in cold climates start pushing the choke knob in, if it starts to run poorly pull it back out too the half position and let it warm up some more. When you can posh the choke in without the engine faltering it is ready to go. In warmer climates you might be able to start the engine without the choke or in the halfway position. Robin Subaru makes some of the finest small engines available. I would choose a Robin over a Honda every time. I hope this gets your generator going, and once again this is based on the generator being in good working order. Good luck, Michael Burke.

Husky 5000w Generator with a Subaru engin.

Fuel system needs cleaned. Dirt or build up get's in the passages and it can not properly regulate the fuel/air mixture. Being it runs well in choke position I would suspect it is plugged on the idle passage. Sometimes you can add a very small amount of "Seafoam" to the fuel and let it run while slowly moving the lever to the run position and this will clean it out. It is also possible that the fuel tank has a small amount of water in it. Good luck and have a great day.

Haven't started it since 6/13/08.

Robin/Subaru post all their engine stuff on their website. If you poke around you should find a PDF owners manual, parts manual, and the service manual. Service manual should have what you need. Definitely drain all the gas, clean spark plug, and change oil as well.

My powermate 5000 with subaru

There is debri or dirt in gas tank and eventually it gets sucked up and clogs the screen filter on the end of gas line. Drain gas tank and flush out a few times. let dry and put new gas in it. check your gas can, if it is metal, it may have rust in the bottom of it and it goes in the gas tank and clogs screen, make sure you have a clean gas can that you use to fill the generator.

Unit just shuts off after

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
This may very well be as simple as having to make sure the generator is sitting level and the OIL level is fully serviced. The generator has a low oil level sensor. The Subaru / Fuji Heavy Industires EH and EY series engines seem to be very sensitive to oil level. I can tell you from owning one myself and from my 40 years of experience. I replaced my oil level sensor and in a few weeks was experiencing the same problem all over again. I finally disconnected one of the wires from the low oil level sensor and resigned myself to checking the oil and servicing the oil to full each time I added fuel. (It works for me)
There are other things that can cause this symptom. Without your exact model number I can not look it up and make other recomendations at this time. If you still have the problem first try disconnecting ONE wire from the low oil level sensor after making sure the unit is fully serviced with oil. Then see how long it is before it shuts off. (If at all!) Once you disconnect the low oil level sensor you MUST check and service the oil if necessary each time you add fuel.
Should the problem persist respond here with a COMPLETE model number and I will help you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
