Lexmark X4650 InkJet Printer - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Changed the ink cartridge and now the printer doesn't recognize the computer. It says the printer is idle. What do I do?
A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
- Disconnect the USB cable
connecting the printer from your computer.
- On your computer, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes.
- Delete the Lexmark print
object.
- Reboot computer.
- Re-brick your printer by
pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged
into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
- When the printer turns on,
reconnect it to the computer.
- Wait until your computer fully
recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers
and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print
a document to verify that the problem is fixed.
Cartridge Error - see user manual
It seems that you have tried most of the troubleshooting steps to identify and fix the problem. But try to replace your black cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge to determine if it's a faulty cartridge issue. You may also contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
Cartridge Error .... help!? I've read all the other replies and it's not helped!
Just make sure you are using a genuine Lexmark cartridge and not some remanufactured, refilled or clone cartridges. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge
issues:
- Make sure the printer is on.
- Open the printer cover. The
print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless
the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move
to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power
source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
- Remove both cartridges from the
carrier.
- Close the printer cover.
- Re-brick your printer by
pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the
power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
- When the printer turns on,
reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any
errors.
- If no error appears, reinsert
the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
- Replace whichever cartridge is
causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to
print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Replaced black cartirdge and now i am getting
Make sure you are using genuine Lexmark black cartridge. Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled, re-manufactured or clone cartridges. You might not get the print quality you expect from ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark.Try to reinsert your black cartridge and make sure it is properly seated in the cartridge carrier. If error comes back up right after placing it in the printer, then it could be a faulty cartridge. Try to replace it with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. If you are already using a genuine Lexmark cartridge, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Problem opening/ lifting to reach the ink
If you're having trouble with the cartridge carrier not moving automatically to its loading position (to install/replace cartridges) even when the printer is on and the cover is open, please follow the steps below:
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- With the printer cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the carrier to the center of the printer.
- Open the latch and remove the used cartridges.
- Load the new cartridges. Close the latch and then the printer cover.
- Re-plug the printer to the power source.
- After going through the startup process, try to print a document to verify that the cartridges are working and installed properly.
I cant get my 4650 to scan it keeps saying downloading application list but it never does anything
If you are scanning documents to edit or save as PDF file, you will need to install the OCR scan software on your computer. The Lexmark OCR scan software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center to request for one.If scanning from your printer to your computer was working previously, then it could be just a slight communication problem. A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected) > reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to scan again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection (if USB connected). If printer is connected wireless, wait until the WiFi light on the printer turns on solid green before trying to scan a document.
Cant lift scanner unit to replace cartridge (stuck/jammed)
Try unplugging the unit from the wall and leaving unplugged for at least 40 seconds. Then plug it in, wait a few seconds and then turn on the power. Wait until the light on the front of the unit is steady green and try opening the unit. I hope this helps. Good luck. :-)
Hardware installation
Hello,
I did a web search and ended on a forum where everyone was complaining that they could not get drivers.
But one person (user name Arthur) said that the problem is solved by printing from a virtual machine that runs on top of Linux (for instance Virtual Box). Arthur claims that the printer worked through USB as well as WIFI. Sounds Neat.
You might try that solution.
Hope it helps.
My x4650 doesnt comunicate with my laptop when I plug in usb lead
Make sure the USB cable is properly inserted behind your printer in the USB port. You may try to unplug then replug the cable to ensure proper connection (forgive me for suggesting this but I have encountered quite a number of instances where the cable was not properly inserted). It could also be a Print Spooler issue. Ensure that the spooler service is running. On your computer, go to Start menu > Run > type Services.msc > hit OK or enter. Scroll through the Services items and look for Print Spooler. Right-click on the item and select Start (if item is currently on Stop). You may also select Restart. Once the service is running, try to continue with the installation.Should you still need assistance, please leave a comment to my response and I'll get back to you. Should this resolves your problem, your rating will be greatly appreciated.
